Dear DJPAUL,
Are you sensitive to the Rainbow effect? Have you ever experienced it on the PF80G?

DJPAUL, after you have tested which would be your score from 1 to 10?

Have you tried test mkv files by the usb port?
Why two usb ports?
Do you feel any improve about the HW300G in terms of smoothness or compatibility?
Is compatible with DTS or is only for Korean version like happens in the PB60G?
Do you think the PF80G would be enough brilliant for 3D movies with the glasses on?
It´s a pity...can not play 3D with this PJ mad.gif
With videogames...any input lag?

I have the same problem with the Acer k750 but more pronounced! best way to fix it is to have the projector perfectly align with the screen and minimalize focus by balancing the left and right parts of the screen till the right starts to look good but the left is not out of focus too much. "You will lose some sharpness with the left but the right will looks better!" Use a wall of text from a computer to help with the calibration. It's easier.

If the PF80g has no rainbows, that would be a significant improvement over the PA70g, not to mention other DLP projectors. I own the PA70g and have been very happy with it in terms of price and my family usage needs, but I do see some rainbows with it, particularly in high contrast areas or black and white films. No rainbows would be nice. Also thanks DJPAUL for all the info you have provided.

I give the PF80G 8/10

Not 10 because of the Focus issue and the price.

The PF80G in my opinion is the best LED PJ at the moment but only for people who watch alot of 1080p movies and who dont care about the price

For me im not so sure if i should stay with the PF80G because im just watching for 90% 720p Animes and on the PF80G they look the same as on the HW300Y
If the PF80G would cost only 600-700€ i would definitely stay with it but its very expensiv in my opinion

Yes 3D would be a nice feature and the PF80G is strong enough for 3D

Yes MKV work great

2x USB sry but i dont now why ^^

DTS i dont try but i think it works

Dont test it with videogames(i will try it for you later the day/with Wii U(1080p game) or PS3(720p game) what would you like to see?)

Some say the Acer k750 is the best currently for contrast and shadow detail and the Viewsonic is the best for brightness and sharpness? Both are said to be better then the LG in brightness/contrast too. Although nobody has put up a comparison.

@Kenoh

I don't think you should expect the HD-91 to be compared anytime soon, as it's not even out yet and isn't planned to be released until december according to Optoma.

Also it will be a lot better than the PF80G as it has 3-4x the pricetag of the Pf80G with a pricetag of 4000+€ or 5500+$ according to Optoma. They even noted it might be more expensive than that. So at that price it should beat the PF80G quite badly, or at least I would assume so.

OK? But what about the Panasonic RZ470u, the Viewsonic and ACER. How do those compare? The Panny can be had under $3000. some I've even seen at around $2800 so at least these can be compared. By the way I heard from a close source that it might be under $4000 hear in the US. The reason why it may be priced higher in the UK is because of taxes?

Well, I am in Denmark, but the information was sent to me from the part of Optoma that is in Norway.

But it does seems that we europeans get screwed with the prices quite a lot when it comes to electronics, generally a 30% gain in price once it crosses the atlantic ocean...

By the way, from what I have read in the K750 reviews it weaknesses should be that it can have a hard time handling action/highspeed scenes in movies, I have not tested this though so I can say for certain it is true.

This is actually why I am aiming to get the PF80G instead of the K750, since it shouldn't have that problem.

I never had a problem with high speed action for movies or games! DLP compared to LCD/LCOS is much better at fast moving scenes and has a faster response for games. Things like fast moving scenes look better when I put my Home Theater receiver on game mode. On my PC it's even better for movies as I overclock my refresh rate!

DJPAUL,
Thanks for all the info.

Q: I take it the PF80G does NOT have upscaling? With everything else they threw in there I'm surprised they skimped on this, but again it's LG and they tend to miss critical things.

Can you show how native 720p content looks on this? If the US model lacks a scaler I want to know what I would be in for.

Thank you for the videos DJPAUL! Wind Waker HD looks awesome on this projector. Nice and vivid colors and satisfactory black level for me. Mario 3D World will be amazing in this!

And no focus issues in the HUD on top right. I was waiting for see this. Thanks again!

Btw, you are projecting on the wall? (In the Wind Waker video in case)

PS: sorry about my english, I'm very bad in it tongue.gif

Called LG about the 85U release date and got some interesting info.

Will it definitely be released in the US? Yes and we're getting flooded with calls about this projector.

When? We don't know but all the new models will be announced on Black Friday (November 21st?). Check the website then for availability.

Do you think it will be released this year before Christmas? Yes.

Will the US version be the same as the European model? Yes. Same specs exactly.

What is Miracast? (listed on their website): It's special software that will allow your PC or cell phone to display directly on the projector wirelessly.

Can it work wirelessly with your Blu Ray player? No. It needs the special software that's only available on cell phones or PC's.

Starting to regret getting the OPPO instead of an HTPC...

DJPAUL thank you

What firmware version is on PF80G?
Have you had to upgrade the firmware on line?

If you can I´d like to see more screenshots with 1080p movies tongue.gif
These are screenshots of my PB60G from Star Wars Ep III on 106", can you do a Vs with the PF80G?

Have you test my settings?

Mmmh. What's if the Blu Ray player supports WIDI/WIFI Direct? Mine does and the PF80G does it too, shouldn't it work in this case? If not i'm out cause this was one of reasons why i've waited for the PF80G instead of buying a K750 or PRO9000.

To t-n-o

You need a sender and a receiver to send a signal wirelessly. Bluray player and projector both are receiver so it won't work.

On the other hand, a computer with bluray may theorically works as miracast/widi mirrors the screen but bandwich may also be a problem because of high bitrates.

Ah, thx. In this case i don't have to wait for more reviews and can go for the Acer instead. It's about 400EUR(550$) cheaper.
