Thanks for the welcome. I've been a follower of this forum for 7 years back when i built my first media room and got sound advice from the experts here on equipment to use. My first purchased pj the Panny ae900u recently has broken out with hives. By hives i mean equidistant red vertical lines encompassing the whole screen. I searched here for advice and took one of the home remedy steps to no avail so am thinking it's time to purchase and upgrade to 1080p and 3D if available.

As said in the post above I've been looking at the affordable ($1k) BenQ1070 and the new Epson 2030.

My theater has a Carada precision 116" fixed mounted screen and the Panny is ceiling mounted approx 13-13.5 feet from the screen. The Panasonic was quite adjustable to fit the picture on the entire screen from that distance using its zoom and lens shift and am being told that this is due to it's zoom capability which is higher than that on the BenQ or Epson models above that i'm looking at. Is that the case?

I don't want to have to buy a new larger screen or remount the pj closer to my screen if i don't have to. Any thoughts on a pj i can use?

Anyway, glad to be here and look to exchange ideas and seek knowledge.

Chris

Thanks for that. Problem is my throw distance is too long for my 118" screen to incorporate the Epson 2030 or the BenQ 1070. I do see an Optima HD25.

Since my Panny was LCD was trying to stay with that format so I nor my wife or kids might see the rainbow effect and wouldn't be able to enjoy.

I will volunteer this since I also upgraded from the PT-AE900U to the AR100U ($1300).

With the AR100U and your Carada 116" screen size the Calculator Pro gives you a throw range from 11' 2" to 22' 7" with the mid range coming in at 14' 11". Like the 900 the AR100U gives you plenty of lens shift. There are two dedicated threads for this projector if you are interested.

There are probably other projectors besides the AR100U to fit your requirements.

Using Projector Centrals projector find i see a new one in there for my set up. The Optima HD131Xe. Most affordable over the BenQ1070 and Epson 2030 that i linked but wouldn't fit. Decisions decisions. Biggest worry is if the RBE will affect me or my family. Need to test this out somewhere on a DLP. Ideas on that or the unit?

How about a refurb Epson 3010? I'm in the same boat as you and it's been tough. Visual Apex under $1k.

That and the 8350 both meet my throw and size needs and are LCD so I wouldn't need to worry about the RBE. I just wish I could test myself and family if that would be bothersome. We went out today to Best Buy and they only had a LCD on display and called HHGregg, Audio Buys, and The Big Screen Store and none have a DLP pj on display. I emailed Optima to see if they knew of someone in my Northern Virginia area that would have a display. Awaiting a reply.

With Best Buy (Magnolia) you have a 15 day return policy. You could always give it a try over several movies and shows. I imagine it would be difficult to notice RBE in the store. I've owned 2 DLPs and have never seen it but it makes others crazy during certain scenes. I just returned an open box 3020 from BB and it was amazing but there were missing pieces and Epson said they couldn't cover warranty for an open box.

Where are you located? Maybe you can go by the home of another member and see their setup. I know I see rainbows on my BenQ W1070, but I've seen more than a few DLP model where I don't have any (or almost any) RBE issues at all, so it is very much projector dependent.
