i am as of today looking for a new projector to replace my epson 8700ub. I have one thousand dollars to spend and i have looked at the mitsubishi hc7900dw and the epson 3010r.
I would like to know which unit you guys think is a better choice ? i dont like optoma and benq due to their not so good warranties. I have never owned dlp but the times i have gone to the movie theaters i was stunned by how sharp the images were so i am wondering if this is THE SAME thing in home theater ?

please any feedback would be greatly appreciated

... I also probably will be needing to know what I can replace my Epson 8700 UB with. I have a "Green tint" that showed up 3 weeks ago on my pj screen only had 2701 hours on it and is only 2 years and 8 months old! The epson tech told me sounds like a bad light engine and cost $1900 to fix so its a throw away now?!

urgggg!!! I never would have paid $2000 for it knowing that it breaks right after warranty expires.

So I'll be watching this to see what is reccomended because I'm not spending 2K again for another one.

These days I dont trust any electronic to last much longer than the standard warranty period for such a high price device.

I bought an Benq w1080st (my first projector) and I am buying extended warranty for extra 4 years for not much money when compared to the device. Got 30 days to buy it before it is too late and I am doing this with all my expensive devices.

Something what happened on your device would of been fixed or refunded me the amount I paid for with an extended warranty if it was a good company anyways.

For under a grand Benq w1070 and w1080st is recommended and I like my 1080st so far. Not many choices in the under a grand category if I am assuming you want 1080p.

I dont want to thread jack the OP smile.gif

Yes, I'm wanting something similar quality to my 8700 (So yea 1080p) and if i can get 3 or 4 year waranty that covers the entire PJ for "any issue" that would be best for my situation.

Really not happy with Epson blowing me off. Yes, I think they should take care of me being that its only 8 months out of warranty (7 when I started seeing the issue)

Theaters have 3 chip DLP projectors with no color wheel, not the lower priced consumer single chip DLP which has the color wheel that can have rainbows(RBE).
I agree that the theaters look pretty sharp but next time you get a chance, go up to the screen while a picture is displayed and you will be surprised that the convergence is not perfect but from a distance it doesn't noticeably affect the sharpness.

per the Epson service center I pulled the filter, cleaned it (It wasn't even dirty) and reinstalled it. The blue lights came on for about a minute, I never seen the Epson logo even come up on the screen and no pic at all, then red lamp light flashes and blue lights all go off, fan keep running and still no pic! Now I wonder what happened?!

That could be said for buying anything used.

theres one on ebay I'm looking at, but it has 56 hours on it and used for $1500, that's to scary for me unless it has a transferable Epson warranty
