I have owned a Qumi Q2 projector for about a year and would like to upgrade. Although I liked the Qumi, it has a few shortcomings that I want to avoid in my next projector:
- crushed black levels ("muddy" image on dark scenes and bad shadow detail)
- posterisation of skin tones on panning portrait shots
- strange dithering or shimmering effect during panning which may have been related to BrilliantColor
- borderline too-dim for anything beyond 90"
I'm leaning toward the BenQ W1070 but I've also got my eyes on the optoma 131XE since it's a newer model. Apparently the black levels are still somewhat crushed on the W1070 but I can't tell if it's better or worse than the Qumi. Can any owners of budget projectors make a suggestion? My budget is around the $1000 mark.
