I'm so excited, can't wait to get my 40es. Thanks kevin for posting pics, the screen looks great. I think it helped me decide to get the elite cinegrey 5d too since I have quite a bit of ambient light in the room.

Anyways, here are some shots of it all set up, my cinegrey 5D causes a bit of hot spotting, I need to figure all that out. it's only noticeable when you look for it.

Also some arrival shots lol

blacks are amazing in low ambient light!

Diggin' that stand. If for some reason I have to wall mount I will look for something sleek like this. Very nice setup. Also, if you want to clean up some of those wires going to the projector:

The Estar emitter was intended as an RF option for Optoma projectors, but also works on Sony projectors with a custom cable. It's not compatible with Sony's RF or IR glasses, AFAIK.

(If you want more details, this was covered earlier in the thread, maybe around page 4.)

okay I'll look for it. I'm a bit lazy so if you or anyone wants to dig up the post that'd be awesome.

I'll be buying it on Monday...I have my reasons...as some of you will see why

Bill, that's a very old trick. I did the same 6 years ago in my old house with my VW40 but in combination with a Chief RPA-U mount and it worked fantastic!!!

Question, how do I change the lamp to "low" mode?

Just got mine. It's the Picture menu. Select "Cinema Black Pro" and you can choose "low"

Just received mine last night. This is my first projector, so I am super excited. My theater is still 3 months away from being finished, but I am going to mount the projector anyways and start fooling around.

Thanks! I re-calibrated it and wow it looks even better and easier on the eyes. I watched gravity last night and it was eye candy for sure. The projector excels in dark scenes, not a huge fan of huge bright scenes since my cinegrey 5d screen sucks with uniformity.

I hate Cinegrey 5D and PowerGain materials from Elite. Those are the most distracting materials from Elite. To many hotspots and not uniform surface. The best material from Elite is CineWhite, period.

Yikes the cinegrey 5d is the one I was going to order to go with the 40es. I don't have good light control and wanted at least some lighting when watching sports. So I thought grey screen would be better for my setup. Any alternatives for under 1K?

High Contrast Grey from Carada is one of my favorites grey materials. I have Carada Classic Cinema White and is excellent. You can contact Carada and ask them to send you screen samples.

Anyways, what's the easiest / cheapest way to hook up 3D for this projector with links on "how-to"???

Sure! But remember I'm using an iPhone 5 and it does not do it justice! I've attached a video link too so you can check it out, the jitter is because of the iphone lens, the picture is flawless in person! I need to stop being so lazy and use my Nikon DSLR to showcase the actual quality of this PJ

The cinegray 5d is amazing with ambient light, the "hot spotting" and uniformity issues are partially my fault because the projector is only 12 ft away from the 100 inch screen and it is centered exactly on it, so if you sit in the dead center, you will see some "hot spotting" in the middle from time to time if the image is really bright, it annoys me and I'm actually considering sending it back and getting the cinewhite material but that will make blacks and contrast worse so I don't might slight uniformity here and there, its not bad enough that that's what you only see because I get immersed in the content just fine.

No need to send the screen back, call Elite Screens to buy the CineWhite screen material only.

wait... so white is a bad choice for screen color? I am trying to figure out what will work best in low light/no light situations and this PJ.

sworn to secrecy since I got a promised reserved unit. Just look around soon and if you can't find it by Monday I'll give it to everyone here.

EDIT: SONY VPL-HW40ES : New SONY SXRD 1080P home theater projector

I found the DIY cable setup. It says you need "the emitter"??? Is that a part originally on the projector? If not, where do you obtain this part. That's the only part of the directions I'm a tad confused on.
