My Epson 8700UB intermittently reports: HDMI not supported

My Epson 8700UB will go black and give me the error message "HDMI not supported" almost once a day. If I turn off the projector, and wait, that will usually fix the problem. I get the message both when using my comcast cable box and when using my xBox.

I've tried shortening my HDMI cables, and upgrading them, but I still can count on getting this message almost once a day.

The Epson website doesn't even mention the error message.

Any help?

It means the projector is seeing an unsupported resolution or refresh rate. I think it's a handshake issue, but I'm not sure. It's not an issue that's unique to Epson projectors, either.

When I see this, I power cycle the source component (because it's typically faster than power cycling the projector) and that usually fixes it.

Good luck.

I get this as well sometimes. I normally toggle the inputs on my receiver to resoslve this HDMI handshake issue.
