Best projector under 500$

Hello im looking for a good movie ( and sometime gaming ) projector.

Thing is all the projector that get good score for their visual quality are over 500$ ( Ex. acer h5380bd , epson ex6220 )
anybody have a recommendation for something that wont break the 500$ mark ?

I am using a 70'' screen , from about 2m ( 6.5' )
the room is completly dark so I wont need alot of lumen
no need for speaker or 3D

thanks for your help !

The $400 or less Vivitek d557w, I've read is a decent option for the price though that Acer is better and usually just under $500. The 720p Optoma 131 is probably a better option as well that might be found under $500.

If at all possible, you should try to stick with DLP for the 2X-10X contrast improvement over LCD at this price, but if it turns out you can't..then you can't.

The first one is 398 on amazon. Are you outside the states?

I thought the value of Canadian $$$ VS US $$$ switched places a couple years ago..apparently the projector market didn't realize. If those price differences stay consistent you'll need used, or maybe a local small brand, or a further drop in resolution.

Are there any models within your price range that you were wondering about?
I know there's a Benq model that's RGBRGB and basically a cheaper 720p version of the w1070 that is sold in Europe but not stateside. Does Canada tend to get access to European models?

Look up the Optoma H180X - That's the model I would go with. Not sure of your Northern pricing on that, but it's $450 in the states, brand new.

The mw519 has been mentioned to handle video surprisingly well for its price and original intention. Weird that it is only $50-100 extra while the previous Acer, Vivitek and Optoma are nearly double their US price.
Mostly out of curiosity, how high is the w1070 showing for you? Naturally it'd be great if it was low enough for you to be able to save a little more to grab one, but I'm doubting that'll be possible.

All the Epson models in your pricerange (and any other LCDs) will have very poor contrast and lagging game performance compared to the DLPs.

In general does Benq seem to have more models NEAR the $500 spot than other brands, or is the mw519 kind of a standout?

Nothing is cheaper in Canada. Shipping and tax kills everything.

if you're close to the border you can ship to a kinek point for like 5 or 10 bucks, and if you bring it over yourself it's just taxes you pay. If you're there for 48 hours you can bring back up to $800 US tax and duty free.

I think im going to go with the acer h5380bd for 550$ , it seem to be the only projector 720p without bad review lol

I'm not sure if it's still available, but there is a JVC RS1 posted for sale in the classifieds for $500. Comes with a spare bulb and mount. I've never seen one myself but I'd have to think it would greatly outperform any of the new 720p units.

If there’s any way for you to try a DLP similar to the Acer before you buy, you should. I had the BenQ MW519 for a day and the RBE was intolerable. I think I’m more sensitive than most, but from what I’ve read it’s pretty common with a 2x color wheel. From PJ Central “The H5380BD has a 2x-speed color wheel, so folks who are sensitive to DLP color separation artifacts will see them in spades.” I ended up with the Epson HC725HD (the HC730HD is $500 onAmazon right now) and couldn’t be happier. Though the specs are similar to the BenQ the 725 really outshines it (literally). It’s brighter, has better contrast and no rainbows. I think the white segment in the color wheel exaggerates the lumen and contrast ratio on the DLPs. To my eyes the Epson just has a much better image than the BenQ.

If you can save up more, then save up more. The W1070 is a good deal better than all the other stuff you are looking at.

The Optoma I previously mentioned is $611 it seems...
http://www.amazon.ca/Optoma-H180X-Lu...s=optoma+h180x

Not a ton of quality inexpensive items up that way. But, if you can get a solid refurb-W1070 for close to your price point, it's truly worth the money.
