Does anyone know if the glass used, about a 1" square, is a special type or can it be replaced with plain glass? Both of my projectors have a small crusty spot in the center of the glass and can't be removed by cleaning, and may be affecting the picture.
I would like to just replace the glass and not the while housing for obvious reasons, to expensive on a dual setup.
Is it rose-colored when looked upon from an angle?
These glass pieces in front of the bulb are almost always actually filters, which prevent invisible light (IR in particular) from passing through and generating excess heat within the optical block.
It's not the kind of substance that should be substituted with plain glass.
That said, the glass on the housing is far enough from the focal point (ie, the DMD) that, unless the spot it's very large, it shouldn't produce a visible effect on the image (other than a tiny drop in brightness uniformity).
