Good source for OEM lamp?

Hello,

I need to replace the lamp in my projector (ELPLP49). I'm wanting to save some money by going with an OEM bulb and generic housing.

Does anyone have a reputable source that they've had good experiences with?

Thanks

"You'll be sorry!"

Read a bunch of threads here and you'll see that almost no one is ever happy going that route. You get tales of early failures (10s of hours), or meltdowns, and even exploding bulbs. Not pretty.

Your best bet is to get a genuine part from someone like ProVantage (http://www.provantage.com/) who sells the real thing for a great price.

It really is a crapshoot and I have yet to find a supplier of generics I trust.

I've had a few generic lamps that were pretty good. I got a great one from Apex Lamps 18 months ago, very bright and correct color for 1/3 the original JVC lamp price. The next time I ordered from them, they had changed bulb suppliers and that one was dimmer and lasted only a couple hundred hours. An RMA replacement lasted only 50 hours.

I bought a bare Osram lamp -- solid brand, right ? -- and relamped it myself, but it dimmed quickly about 500 hours. I just bought a module from Parts Simple claiming a genuine Philips lamp, supposedly, but I am tempted to take it apart and see because the color is warmer than it should be and whites are not really white, nor is it as bright as the best I've had.

Next time I think I'll call Jason Turk here at AVS and find out what genuine JVC BHL-5009S lamps cost these days. I'm even considering a two projector setup, adding a W1070 for casual TV watching, so I don't go through so many hours on my JVC lamp, because spending $300 for a new lamp every 9 months is just silly.
