New LG PF1500 LED Projector

Stopped in at the LG display area this afternoon and saw a new micro LED projector that looks like a winner. It's 1080P, seems about 60% the size of the PF85 which I believe it replaces, has a 1.1 zoom, and has a 1400 lumen rating. Available at Best Buy in the Feb/March timeframe. Price? $995.

The display area was not good with two other micros in the room and all white walls, floor, and ceiling so I couldn't tell just how bright and what kind of contrast, black level or color it would provide. The lever on the top was labeled zoom although the demo man thought it was for focus. I think it was zoom and you focused with the lens ring. We couldn't reach the ring so moving the lever didn't show much.

I'm definitely going to check it out when it arrives at Best Buy.

Tnx for your info i will be looking forward to some detailed information about this projector as i couldn't find any info about it even on the lg website. Hopefully it uses some blether optics and the price tag in Europe doesn't top 1000 euros .

I didn't ask about the lens and will be leaving today so I won't be able to return to ask. I suspect that at a price point of <$1K it will be plastic. Maybe someone else who sees this thread will stop by and ask.

PF85 has 1000 lumen, really are 500 on tests, so this one can get around 900, not bad. I expect improvements on focus

I expect it to be about the same as the pf85/87, but the price-drop and available zoom to make mounting less nerve-racking are big deals.
If there's a real-world, full-color lumen increase, that'd be amazing but I wouldn't bet on it.

I'm worried the smaller size will make it louder. The pa75u and its fatty case is impressively quiet and it's a bit spoiling.

Simple <$250 dedicated black-fabric theater room, build in a day, takedown in an hour.
Easy $25-40 DIY black/dark-grey ambient-light rejecting screen, grab two things from a local store..mix..roll..done.

Yeah, it would be nice to know if this has the 3D guts of the PF87U in it instead of being a brightness upgrade from the PF85, while dropping price, which may come at a cost of higher fan noise.

Why not put in a glass lens with decent zoom? Make sure 3D is in there? Charge a couple hundred bucks more, but make it a serious product.

3D, another feature I forgot to ask about. In the P85 or P80 thread I proposed that a techie out there interested in this product should figure out how to replace plastic lens with glass one. Shouldn't be that hard or expensive.

I think that LG strategic plan in video reproduction is related to AMOLED tv sets. Considering how much they have invested in this technology it is logical.

Led projectors made by LG seams almost like a side project for them , with good optics , good software and more lumen s they would compete to theirs strategic products (TV).

Technology for making good led projector is there for some time now.

What it is more strange to me that some other manufactures like Benq/Epson/Optoma.... are not presenting anything in full hd led affordable projector market.

I remember many years ago I was on the presentation of Samsung first led projector and I was thinking man this is the future :-) I was very wrong :-)

We just have to wait.

Regards.

Found an article from an Italian site that at least shows us what it looks like:

http://www.dday.it/redazione/15350/l...uner-integrato

Nothing much new on specs. It is "smart" in that it has built in streaming apps, and can stream ia bluetooth. It also has a zoom lens.

The article did mention good blacks along with good color rendition.

I'm glad to see this coming out, along with the higher end Epson units. At least now the gap between portable LED and high-end LED is closing, and hopefully we'll see a decent quality product aimed at the $1000-$3000 home theater market announced at CEDIA this year. 2016 is when I'll be in the market again for something new, and I'd really like something LED based at around $2k so I don't have to worry about bulbs dimming/flickering/exploding...

where do u get that info from?
i dont like the new form factor. should be much deeper in dimension, because of that. that would imply i have to reset my projector mount

Hi all,

This new form factor will surely help to work silently and the optic seems to be bigger.
Can't wait to see full size and throw ratio.

At least for my usage to hell with 3d. Don't care about Bluetooth/smart phone or other bells and whistles either. Just put the design/money into image quality/brightness. I am not ditching my PA70g until there is an LED 1080p projector with a significant quality increase in clarity/brightness, and for a decent price.

I agree I have the same projector and for the price vs overall picture to me you can't beat it. I would like to get a 1080p one but it must be worth it to me. I paid $399 for my pa70g and the picture is great on my 106 screen.

I'm concerned about noise level. I can probably deal with the lumen output and lens.

Really hoping this will finally hit the quality point I wanted from an LED projector. I've had a Sharp 70" for almost 4 years now and I am ready for an upgrade. A LED projector combined with a Slate screen was my target for an upgrade (screen would last through multiple projectors and allow gaming with a light on) Since my primary game right now is an mmo, a long life LED with quality 1080p output is a must.
