I know a lot of people think the SideShot feature of the HS10 is a pretty useless feature since it degrades pic quality to some extent. But for those of us that might not ceiling mount the thing right away, I see a couple of great uses for it.

1) When the youngsters have their friends over all dressed like Annakin Skywalker and Obi Wan for movie day, it would be very nice to have the projector in the corner somewhere rather than on a table in the middle of the room where the kids are improvising light sabre battles of their own.

2) If you want the HS10 to be transportable, like in other rooms of the house or taken to over to the friends house, having that versitility of placement could make it work well in all kinds of settings.

I know we shouldn't be advocating using anything that could compromise a single pixel of image quality, but this feature could really end up being a guilty pleasure for me.

Seriously though, I'm curious how well this would work. It might be a temporary solution when I first get my projector. I'll at least try it out for kicks.

However, as I'm already going throug the effort of converting my PC to an HTPC, I'm 99% sure using sideshot would be not so smart. :)

Is "side shot" like the "3d reform" of NEC? I've used it several times for 4:3 movies -- with the projector in the corner (small rooms). Except when there's a really dark scene, and the funky almost-black trapezoid shows itself, it works really well for video material. Not something you want for a permanent install though.

''SIDE SHOT'' has got to be the dummest idea the Japs have come up with. They should give us better value for money with USEFUL features instead of USELESS.

I've read several postings that state side-shot degrades the picture quality. Just how much? If not used at extreme angles will it really make a difference? I was planning on using it to since it would make installation easier.

HTcrazy,
I think the side shot will give me a bigger screen when i will use the HS10 in a smaller area. Think about putting the pj on the side of couch as far as possible from the wall to project.
You will get a few more inches you will appreciate in the wider image.
Moreover the trowing distance will slightly increase because now is calculated on a oblique line and is not the shorter distance projector-wall; hey guys I am not crazy i will have a default pj mounting but the side shot is a feature i am going to use for emergency setup..
good luck with your PJ..

CAE - I woud think it would give you a better screen size projecting from a far corner instead of the center of the room. Obviously it all comes down to how much it degrades pic quality. If the degradation is noticeable but not awful, I think it might have some usefullness.

Memory stick is a bit of a gimick on a projector, but I could get some seriously good use as I have a sony digital camera and half a dozen memory sticks!! :)

I did read somewhere it says the internal speaker only works on memory stick mpegs?? this cant be true?

the only thing now is to go out and buy a step lader to reach the ceiling so I can stuff memory sticks in the darn thing :D :D
