New Acer H7850 & V7850 4K PJs

H7850 3000 lumens
V7850 2200 lumens RGBRGB

Very same specs and pricing vs the Optoma UHD60/UHD65 but in a smaller case (no black option).

I didn't see a specific post regarding these.

Not quite the same as Optoma. These both show horizontal and vertical lens shift while the Optoma only has vertical lens shift. No numbers in the specs for the amount of shift, however.

Let's hope they do a better job than Optoma with the light path and get a better contrast ratio.

New Acer H7850 & V7850 4K PJs

Interesting offerings.

Looks like the V7850 is their uhd65 but in a smaller box, lighter box, in white, WITH potentially more lens shift.

Wonder if it will be louder due to the smaller housing. Per Acer, it is 29db and 28db. Optoma says 28db in normal and 25db in eco mode.

The Acer does not have an optical/toslink audio out (the Optoma does).

Here's a short review I found. The review says it supports 3D?
There's also a matching vid on youtube. I couldn't hear what he was saying over the music.

Both Acers feature "Acumotion" Frame Interpolation to reduce motion blur and judder, only the Optoma UHD 65 Features "PureMotion" FI.

IIRC, lens shift range is the same on all these 4K DLP projectors as they supposedly all share the same optical block components.

Acer H7850 is the 'counterpart' to the Optoma UHD 60 (same color wheel), V7850 is the 'counterpart' to the Optoma UHD 65 (same color wheel for better contrast and black level reproduction).

H7850 review:

http://www.projection-homecinema.fr/...-h7850-dlp-4k/

it is in French but you can use various translators to convert it to English.

The review is not very favourable.

Nice find. Looks like they only reviewed the H7850 (the uhd60 equivalent). One plus for Acer is that it has FI in both models, whereas Optoma only has it for the uhd65 and not the uhd60.

Sadly, lens shift seems to be only for 15% vertical shift (no horizontal)... sounds similar to what the Optoma has.

So, for those interested in the Optoma uhd60 but want FI (and can tolerate a slightly louder projector 25db vs 28/29db in their quiet modes), the Acer H7850 provides another option at the same $2k price point as the uhd60.

This brightness figures seem much higher than the UHD60 (although native contrast numbers are not good), if they actually provide decently accurate color:

I keep hearing how Coretronics is providing the identical optical module, but if that were true shouldn't the brightness and contrast figures be closer ?

Now THIS is interesting:
Quote:
In its mode Silence this denomination is opportune because the H7850 becomes almost inaudible, XPR processing is deactivated and the DLP chip works in its native resolution of 2716 × 1528

Wonder if they will follow up with the laser variant as Optoma is supposed to.

Very interesting. On the UHD60 the XPR function can be heard as a very slight higher pitched noise, wen sitting one or 2 feet from it. Not sure how noticeable it would be turned off when the overall fan noise of the projector is higher than the Optomas. Also looks like this mode would be handy for PC users that didn't want any additional scaling done in the projector.

Does anyone know what the input lag is on the V7850. I have seen that the H7850 is high (77.9-140+ ms). I like the form factor of the acer as it will fit into my cinema room but I need an acceptable input lag as I use it for gaming!!

I would be shocked if it is any lower than 50ms. The XPR seems to have a number of consistent traits common across manufacturers. Fairly middling lag and contrast among them.

50ms might suffice for my needs but definitely a little higher than my current setup. I'm trying to find a suitable projector for my pre-ordered Xbox one x that's a smaller form factor for my small cinema room to deliver a120" picture from 11ft

Found on a German forum referencing V7850 input lag at 77.9 however not sure if this was with motion flow settings maxxed. Someone asked if by turning this off input lag could be reduced.. Hopefully full reviews will give us an indication if this can at all be reduced.

The above French review of the H7850 has an input lag of 77 without interpolation, so I'd guess that's the same with the V7850.

According to Acer (from the Amazon page under Questions):

Question: Does it do 3d?
Answer [Manufacturer]: This projector does not support 3D.

I use 3D occasionally so I'm a little sad to hear that.
