Based on projectorcentral.com reviews anything more is degrading what an X1 and L300 can do. I am surprised the X1 could look good even for DVD at 9ft wide, I would think even 7 ft wide would be pushing it.
Yah, since I will probably have an 80X60 screen in my final theater, this is the one thing I wish we had done. However, I think that we probably would have just narrowed the gap even further. At that size, I would think that pixelation would have been a non-issue for all 3 PJs. Oh well....

It doesn't take much to 'see' pixel structure. You just need to know what to look for. I can see pixel structure even with HD2 and the best WXGA LCD's at this screen size.

Well guys, I finally did it. I pulled the trigger on the HS20 this morning. Perhaps at the next shootout, I will not have to gaze with envy, but instead can host or provide a more valuable contribution  :D

Turff, what screen will you be mating this projector to, and any chance you can bring it over one weekend to my place?

Oh wait, you're in Newnan, that's one heck of a drive to my place. Nevermind.

I have a generic 8' pull down loaner screen I am going to use until I can construct something to protect a perm screen from my 3 year old daughter's crayons. And yes, Newnan is just south of Egypt.

Well, if anyone is near me and would like to perform some A-B comparisons with an inexpensive, used CRT please let me know.

WanMan, I have three things planned for the 25th, but I'm probably free on the 26th.

Thanks guys for posting your results. After demoing the X1 projector for 10 days and after reading how well the X1 stacks up to the other more expensive projectors I went ahead and bought an X1. I will be using it for DVDs almost 100% of the time and by the time HDTV becomes mainstream there will be much higher resolution projectors out that will take full advantage of the 1080i signal.
Now to start watching all 445 dvds in my collection again.
