I've been think about this constant height thing for my dvds. If I use the "16:9" aspect mode on my projector to watch 2.35:1 animorphic dvds, I can fill the whole width of the screen. Now, if I use the "S16:9" aspect mode to watch 1.85:1 animorphic dvds, it keeps the same height but brings in the sides. (Note both of these settings leave black bars at the top and bottom).
My question is, if I have my dvd player set to 16x9 and my projector (L300U) set to "S16:9" aspect mode when watching 1.85 animorphic dvds, am I making use of the extra resolution on the dvd? I know I'm not using the full lcd panel but am I using all of the anamorphic dvd source resolution for these 1.85:1 dvds?
Even though I'm not using the full resolution of the lcd panel, this seems like an easy way to keep constant height between different formats and use a 2.35:1 screen.
