I have a NEC LT154 projector and run it in ECO MODE only!
The manual states the unit goes into standby mode and shuts itself off after
1100 hours of service (2200 hours ECO MODE).

My bulb/lamp just popped. The inner center piece broke and exploded at exactly-
Lamp hour meter: 1100 [H] Projector usage: 1101 [H]

I thought bulbs last varying lengths of time depending on
number of times fired up and other factors. These things are
high pressure mercury arc lamps with quartz envelopes, designed to withstand high
temperatures and are not cheap. Is this the normal way they go out
or do they normally just lose brightness until they are no longer worth using?

It seems a like a STRANGE coincedence that the bulb popped when
powering it up and the lamp hour meter was EXACTLY at 01100[H] which happens
to be the exact amount of time the LT154 unit is designed to shut itself off and go
into stanby mode if running in standard NON ECO/regular mode. Has anyone else experienced
or heard of this problem? I think it may be a flaw in the LT154 or 15x series.
NEC says no chance of this being the case.... Hmmm....

Should I be disappointed?
Are many others getting more hours out of their units?
Does ECO MODE really make any difference in these units?
I do run an external fan on the unit too...

Anyone seen any charts anywhere of REAL WORLD bulb runtimes or which
cheaper units have the longest lamp life for real?

These projectors are one of the coolest things I have EVER owned. I am completely hooked.
Only problem is lamp life and cost of course :).

I have run across places that you can send your bulb to be refurbished.
This is much cheaper (less than half the cost of a new bulb.) They remove the arc tube from
the reflector/cage assembly, and replace it. (Often even after it has popped btw.)
Anyone have further knowledge or experience here and care to comment?

Any other NEC LT154 owners and what has your bulb life/experience been?
If not a NEC LT154, what about a NEC LT155,LT156,LT157, or LT158? Same lamp.
What has your lamp/bulb life been? My brightness appeared only slightless less at 1100 btw!

Any comments or experience on lamp life, popping bulbs, infocus, sharp, nec, whatever, welcome!
