With all this talk about Panamorph I think a power buy would be a great idea. Anyone else with me on this one? My urge to upgrade to a 2.35:1 screen has finally brought me to this point.

AVS had a blowout sale on the older P752 model not too long ago. That's when I got mine. I doubt there's as much call for a power buy right now. Could be wrong, though.

I am interested as well - but want to take a 4*3 full to 16*9 so the specs would be different

RalphArch,
No, I think they are all the same. "4X3 -> 16:9-> 2.35:1 cinemascope"

That's right. The same lens will take a 4:3 to 16:9 and take 16:9 to 2.35.

I bought my Panamorph from Jason here at the forums, and it was the new u-10 model. (u-10 or u-100, the standard one.)

I've batted this around in my head....is there any point to using an anamorphic lens with an svga projector? I get the feeling the money would proably be better spent (ie saved) for a pj upgrade in the future.

I'd be interested too, if AVS can put something together.

So if it goes 4:3 > 16:9 > 2.35:1 could I buy 2 and take a 4:3 PJ all the way to 2.35? Not that I would, but it would be cool.

For us price concience enthusiasts of 2.35:1, we will always be in need of an anamorphic lens...unless companies come out with affordable native 2.35:1 projectors in the near future (unlikely).

I plan on an 4805 with a panamorph. Besides making my own lens, if others have a more cost effective way to get native 2.35:1 please let me know, I'm a newbie.

Alright I just received an email from Jason. The model of the panamorph will be the PSO-U100. As far as price goes it up to how many people are in on this. I'm waiting to hear back from Jason about the final price. What would you like to pay for this lens. The AVS price is $1399 before the power buy.

I'm having little luck convincing my wife at the normal price. Maybe a "special" deal will convince her. :)

I have heard it said:
- (Hunter) Men will buy what they DO need even if it's double the price.
- (Gatherer) Women will buy what they DON'T need if it is half price.

As you have said, convince her that it's a special price and she'll be more likely to approve it (at least her guard will come down a little).
As for us...this forum has taught us that we NEED native widescreen i.e. panamorph! :)

I personally consider a Panamorph a "necessity" for my set up (okay, this is home theater we're talking about. Discretionary spending. Nothing we buy here is necessary, but you guys know what I mean). I've read enough about Panamorphs, HTPCs, Powerstrip, the Z2, and 2.35:1 screens to know that if you put all those components together, you can have one heck of a widescreen experience.

Six weeks ago, I asked Jason about purchasing a Panamorph through AVS and his response at that time was, "We actually used to sell Panamorphs, but we recently stopped selling them."

If Jason has indeed worked something out, count me in for buying a Panamorph.
