I have an X3 coming in about 7 days. I'll give it a non technical review comparing it with my X1. If there is anything specific you guys would like me to test just let me know.

Besides the obvious:

1. Perceived brightness difference. Ambient light tolerance.

2. Are the user reviews at ProjectorCentral.com accurate?

1. - same as above, an obvious upgrade if the price is right

2. - speaking of those reviews, please test this with an HD source and a decent upconverting dvd player, both through the digital input.

if someone buys the x3 expecting any kind of SD processing they have no one to blame but themselves. This pj is for those who have developed a deserved fondness for the x1s scaling, colors, brightness, and general performance. The x1 added very good faroudja deinterlacing, but that is not, and was never promised to be, a feature here. For this of us who almost never used that feature, the X3 could be a great short term upgrade.

3. Please A/B it with your x1, projecting the two side by side if at all possible.
- noise
- brightness
- picture/colors

4. please give your opinion of the apparent image quality improvement or lack thereof using 1080i and 720p material.

5. If you know someone in the neighborhood with an AE700, MT700 and 4805, please try to view them together and give a value/quality appraisal.

6. Thanks for doing this.

black levels... i would imagine brightness won't be much of a problem, wasn't with my x1, and this has 1600 lumens

I am hoping that you will hook up the Infocus X3 using Component Cables. I am guessing you need some type of dongle to make it work. That is the only way to make a fair comparison between the two projectors. Hooking up the Infocus X3 using an S video cable is a bad idea since it doesn't have the faroudja chip built into it.

How do you hook up your X1 right now?

Why in the world would you get a X3 for home theater instead of the 4805 for less money! The resolution will be very slightly higher in 16:9, but there are so many tradeoffs like the 4x 6 segment color wheel vs 2x white segment. This makes a big difference, far more than a tiny bit of resolution ever would.

Why would you ever use a 4805 as a biz projector?

I'm sure a few people would want to know how loud it is relative to the X1. The quoted 37dB in eco mode sounds should turn off a few prospective upgraders.

A tiny bit? Check your math again. In addition to the higher resolution. You will surely get less screendoor and some people, believe it or not, hate the SD effect.

I could easily ask you, why would you buy an SP4805 when for the same money and even less, you could buy a Electrohome Marquee CRT that will absolutly blow away your SP4805?.

And to answer your question, I'm not buying an X3 ;)

I'm still waiting on the X3.

Hi,
Do you know if it will accept HDTV signals?
When will this projector be available?
Thanks ;-)

I've yet to find a Marquee in usable shape from someone I trust for as cheap as the SP4805's $1099 US MSRP. Refurbished units are even cheaper than that. I must not be looking in the right places.

This projector reminds me of the HT1000 in res specs.

Audible Noise: • 39 dB (standard mode) • 37 dB (whisper mode) that seems to translate to "loud".

The pipeline is full of X3s. I read that as your vendor is unable to buy at their desired price.

Any update with the X3? It seems I have been waiting for 3 weeks now for someone to post something of value. Projector Central reviews are trash and before I buck up and order one I was hoping that lukewarmm would be posting.

uh, poet, not to complain overmuch, but he had a thread with 2,500 views waiting with baited breath for his review, would it been too hard to have let us know he had been banned so someone else could go take the leap for a/b comparisons?

I used to view this place as the comprehensive be-all of a/v information - it's hard to believe that we can't get a single person posting actual user experience with the successor to one of the most popular pjs ever on the market.

ok, I take one more shot - anyone actually seen this thing in action/can comment on it as an alternative to an x1 bulb replacement to be used for the next 18 months until 1080i lcd or whatever ti offers to compete becomes more reasonable?

for those of us who still use a lot of 4:3, including gaming this is a substantial issue and the 4805/h31 are less of an option.

I echo the hope that someone will post a review of the X3. Especially someone with an X1 to compare the PQ with.

One of the best things about AVS is that there is some moderating control. Newsgroups are a place where one can say anything one wants, but it is not a good place to get intelligent interaction.

IMO, of course.
