I have been VERY happy with my X1(2900 hrs)- which I purchased based on AVSForum user's advice !! - but now I want to upgrade. thinking maybe an HD proj.

* want to stay as low priced as possible - max $1300.00
*screen size is 100" home made (thxx to this forum again !)
* X1 is currently 14' away from screen
* room is 15' x 23' ( screen on the 15' wall) good light control
* current equipment ( all rec. from this AWESOME forum)
Dish
Samsung DVD-C631P
Panasonic SA-XR45 AV Control Receiver.
*Uses - I mainly watch DVD's - Movies - and football ( not much else)

Any advice or links are greatly appreciated - also if you think my other equipment needs upgrade let me know ??

Thanks to all who reply !!

My recommendation? I just upgraded to a Mitsubishi HD1000 from an Optoma H31 - HD 720P looks beautiful on my DaLite 103" High Power screen. My whole setup if I bought it today would be $1200 with shipping. I tried the DIY screens, and nothing compares to my High Power - amazing, especially with the projector mounted near my feet, as the light reflects back to the projector. Sure beats any of those tiny 60-inch plasmas and LCDs.

Hello. I rarely reply in forum, but I also upgraded from an X1. I used X1 for about 3000 hours total with two bulbs (1st bulb burned out young because I neglected to clean the screen regularly.) I loved the X1 in dark dark environment. 3 months ago I bought the AX100u. It is great. Sometimes I see a little blurring on text and sd channels, but it is better than the X1 in every way except actual projector size. The lack of occasional rainbow and the occasional eye strain that I had with the X1 is a big plus. The panasonic is bright, so easily watchable in somewhat more lit conditions where the X1 is unwatchable. With the 400 rebate, you're getting close to your price objective. Good luck.

I'm also getting ready to pull the trigger and retire my faithful X1 and would seriously be interested in anyone else's experiences.

My current setup is:
a BOC screen with full masking,
Total Light Control in room,
HTPC,
Zenith DVB-318,
H-20 HD D*TV sat reciever,
Pioneer 1015TX receiver

Mitsubish HD1000 is the consensus choice.

Went from the X1 to the HD1000.
Picture is awsome. The Super Bowl looked great and I had my Ceiling Caned lights on in the back of the room the whole time because the people and the food.

Hd = awsome
DVD= awsome
price = pretty darn good

As you can see I am happy with mine.

The Bears will go back to the SB next year and I hope it will be a better outcome.
That is why I bought a new projector in the first place.
Oh well, it was well worth it.
