Yep. thats why you've got to figure out yourself. When the sony reviews and reports come it will be easier. But if you have to decide now, its between brightness/low SDE vs. good contrast/color/sharpness. I can't decide, I will wait for the Sony reviews.

Is there a release date yet?

June 15... i really hope its brighter, because if this is the case, and with the auto iris 2.0, sony would have made just the perfect projector for that price : )

So, I'm looking at a Sharp 12000mkII that has a ~270 watt bulb but only ~1000 lumens, will it appear twice as bright as the 130 watt projectors?

I said the same thing about my HS10s Bulb when the Z5 came out. It was at 3800hrs and was going to get the z5 as soon as it died. That bulb was still going at almost 8k hours when I finally just replaced it and decided wait out another generation of PJs. Now this AW15 is on my radar big time.

u buy 1.3 cables.what i read on 1.3 hdmi it may be a nice fit. i think there is 1 pj out there has
1.3. it will be nice to see what it look like. the 1 pj is 1080p.

HDMI 1.3 is close to meaningless right now, there is no source material to take advantage of its benefits and probably won't be for a few years. Even then it will be games at first, Blu-Ray and HDDVD specs do not support the "deep color" feature, DVDs of course also do not, nor does broadcast TV.

No. Sharp MKII is and Sony HS60/51/AW15 are in the samr ball park brightness in their highest contrast mode. Sharp is brighter without the iris engaged by a good margine at the price of poor black level.

u are dead wrong. ps3 is 1.3 and onkyo tx-sr605 1.3 all pj coming out will be 1.3
hdmi.1.3 is like 1.2 it has nothing to do with games or Blu-ray and HD-dvd .1.3 is more than deep color. where did u read that link . because that no true.and it not about broadcast.

snoopy555, I can't really understand either of your last 2 posts, why don't you explain why you think HDMI 1.3 is so vital to someone looking to buy a display at this time?

For future compatibility, a 1.3 is a better choice regardless if you are shopping now. If you already have one that is not 1.3 don't worry!
Susu2k- I see you are back in square one. Gee! Get the Sony if you like the color and black level. You can brighten up the PJ some 10~20%. If not send it back. HD1000 is not a true HT PJ but can be used as one and is not in the same league as the Sony. Don't confuse yourself.

I'm not so good in english. please assist!!!

does the pannel fade quickly??? is the sony really worse?

and how about ansi??? is the new sony really about 25% brighter than hs60? because i calculated that 135 to 165 watt would make a brightness increase of 25%.

is it still not clear how much ansi it has? I read about 1100 and 1300. Both are mentionned...

susu2k ... the Sony is a good projector and the panels do not fade so quickly. I have a Sony projector that is more than 4 years old and the picture is still great. If you like the picture of the Sony AW15, go and buy it.

I think you won't get any further help here or in any forum for your question. You are the one who has to decide for yourself, finally. And asking the same question again and again won't bring you further. As CaspianM said, now you're on your own. Decide, buy, enjoy. Nothing more to say from my side.

Read that again. I believe that Sony is superior to HD1000.
If you need a really bright projector, do not buy the Sony.

but really bright means not optimal for cinema doesnt it? i mean contrast is very important and hs60 and aw15 has good image quality?

would you prefer aw15 image quality?

Yes that is the compromise. If you want cinema projector, Sony is second to none in this price range. Go get it boy.
On the other hand, if no ambient light control is possible then another brighter pj will do better than Sony. I have already told you with your small screen (70") Sony would be very bright. Good luck.
