Wow. No one's posted here for quite a while, am I the only one still running this model?
Projector is still going strong, at 5315 hours and getting daily use. Everything is working fine, though about once a week there will be a fault on startup and the projector will shut itself off - the next time it works though. I've since seen several Epson threads that have similar issues caused by fans or the cinema filter needing maintenance. At any rate, it seems it's time to open it up and I was wondering if anyone can help regarding the following:
- Does anyone have the service manual for this? I found the one for the EMP-TW1000/HC1080's on ifixit
; most of the mechanical stuff is identical, but the values in the "Software DIP Switches" table don't appear to be the same, or at least the ones I've tried have no effect.
- Panel alignment. I know there's no way to improve convergence without pulling the light engine, loosening the plates that holds the LCDs to the prism, and spending (probably a very long) time poking at them. I should probably leave well enough alone, but if I'm already taking it apart... My convergence isn't terrible, but compared to Green, Red is off by one pixel. Blue is off by less than one, but in a different direction. White is a mess, though it looks ok in motion. It will never be perfect, but I feel like I might be able to do better. If I'm going to try though, I would prefer to know what I'm getting into first. I can't find any close-up photos of the prism assembly - this
is the best so far but there's not enough detail. In this thread
someone with an Epson 3010 describes the process, and it seems like the LCD is on some sort of rail or guide, presumably to keep it from rotating. I can't find ANY photos of the prism from that model though. Does anyone know if the HC720 has something similar?
