thanks...
i hum'd and ho'd over this for a while.

where live its hard (impossible) to try things out. so everything is blind buys.

i ordered this, and basically had a friend hold it above his head (only 8'6' ceilings at the screen location) and prayed it would work.

it does, i am so glad. it was not as hard as i thought to set it up.

total for screen, and pj $830. awesome deal. especially since i paid close to 2 grand a couple years ago for a 61" 1080p dlp, and stand.

This is my first post, so Greetings everybody!
I´ve seen the pics made by Peter_ and in my opinion they are impressive. I was thinking to purchase an Optoma HD80, but after see what the HD65 can do I´m not so sure. Could someone who owns the HD80 take pictures of the same moments of "I´m Legend" and post it to compare? It would be a great help for me...

Well, if it were me, at this point in time, I'd wait a bit. Optoma will apparently release a newly-designed, lower-priced 1080p PJ soon. Maybe in a couple of months time. See the HD65 thread. Poster 'guitarman' has an 'inside' to Optoma and he has stated as much in that thread.

I own an HD65, and I'm entirely satisfied with its performance, but I'd like 1080p, too. Hopefully, Optoma (and/or someone else), will be coming along with a newer, brighter (than the HD80) machine real soon. We can only hope.

IMO, 720p is enough and 1080p is a "+Plus".

I was wondering why the Hd80 couldn´t have 1600 lumens as the HD65 has.
Now, here´s the answer, and I think it´s worth the wait. Thank you very much, Ron Yost!

I agree with Peter, too. Please don't get me wrong (I didn't really explain very well)... the HD65 produces an excellent, very sharp, simply gorgeous, bright picture...as amply proven by his pics on this forum. I'm not at all dissatisfied with it.

BUT...since I want to go to a larger screen (I also have a real 35mm film projection system, and use the same screen for both) I do want a big, bright 1080p image, eventually. BUT, I know going from 720 to 1080 isn't going to be a giant leap. In other words, if it doesn't produce at least an equal, but very slightly 'sharper', image than the HD65 I won't buy it. No need to, in my opinion. 720p on the HD65 is more than adequate, IMO, as Peter says. I don't feel I'm 'missing' anything right now.

Also, NOBODY is saying the new 1080p machine will be 1600 lumens!! I hope so, but there's no guarantee on that one, that I know of.

Maybe you could try the HD65 and see for yourself?? If you live where they're returnable there's really no risk. Right? You'll be amazed at its performance, I think. I was! Sorry if I've confused the issue.

More later tonight.

Few questions:
- Are these movies HD or SD?
- I have an Acer PH110, very similar to this 4805. In my projector the screendoor effect would be easily visible at the distance where these photos
were taken, nevertheless, It can´t be seen in the pics. Could you tell me If are you using any special configuration? Are the pics treated with any Image computer program?
- What is the output used to play these movies, component or DVI?

Regards!

Greetings!
The movies are HD..well MKV files of BluRay movies.
I took the pics from about 17' away and the screen is 8'. I used a prime lens 50mm 1.7 with a Pentax K100D F stop 8 (or 5.6). At my sitting distance you can see SDE if you WANT to but its not something that will bother you at least not me or anyone else watching movies at home.
The pics were only checked for contrast/brightness to approximate my actual image but color was not corrected. In reality the image has more vivid saturation...nothing wild but a bit more than what you see here.

I am using DVI connection from my HTPC.

Regards

Nice, You are playing Call of Duty 4 right? I use to own a HD73, and play COD 4 on my white wall was awsome. Until the sad day that i had to sell the HD73. The experience of COD 4 at 80 inch was uncamparable, even when I play the game on my 42" plasma.

These are all BD shots since I had the PS3 on when I decided to take some pics. I'll add HDDVD shots later.
These are all "as-shot" by my Fuji SLR. I simply took the RAWs, cropped to just the screen, and then dropped the width to 800 pixels. No color correction, sharpness, etc was applied. I do apologize for the funky shape of the screen. It's the result of the only location I could put my tripod and the tripod's shortness relative to the screen. There's no way I trusted myself to hold the camera dead still (which you would have to to see the detail) for 30secs!

I love that shot, looks so "detailey"!

It's a HC15000? The picture quality is beautiful Your DLP it not even a 1080P, I believe the picture is nice because you use your SLR.

I wonder how your HC15000 campare against Optoma HD73, its the best 720P projector that I had ever lay my hand on.

Do you by any chance have any new movie, the band of brother picture seem to be so soft. Either the screen size is to large or lam light is really low, I just order my Z2000 and it going to arrive a next week. I hope it can beat my expectation, my previous project that I own was Sony VPL-HS60, HD70, Hd72 and HD73 (HD73 was the best of all very well round PJ).
