Want to buy and or build a HTPC but want to know about the Guide Data.

I asked a similar question to the WMC folkes and it seems to be a no go.

Maybe Mythtv will be able to do it.

I'm going to use the HPTC with OTA signals only and would like to know if it can use TVGOS for the guide data. From my understanding Mythtv guide is a pay service, I'm ok with that if needed. I really would not even need a internet connection to this box for anything else.

Thoughts?

Thansk

You can use the EIT data broadcast with the OTA signals w/o an internet connection: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/EIT

I saw you can use EIT but lets face it that kinda stinks. The TVGOs data would be great if it works. But all things cant be perfect!

To be honest I'm not up on TVGOS but I would think if 8 days of guide data was available and free lots of people would be using it and I would have some knowledge on the subject. But then again perhaps it is available and I am spending too much time writing code to know.

Do you personally have access to this data via a TV or something now?

I'd just go with Schedules Direct then. It's cheap (non-profit org, subscriptions just pay for the servers) and I could do without the "Advanced Advertising": http://www.rovicorp.com/products/ce_...nk_id=rightnav

Yep, use it with the DTV-Pal (TR50). It works well.

I would just stick with the DTV-Pal but it does not have named based recording, I really miss that.

I think you are correct and the TVGOs data comes from Rovi but at this point I dont see comercials on the guide that I have now, not to say I wont at some point.

Yeah, I got there from the TVGOS Wikipedia page. Some corporate history (also followed from that Wikipedia page): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemstar

IMHO, Schedules Direct is awesome and totally worth the $20/yr. http://www.schedulesdirect.org/membershiplevels
