In searching around MythTV set-up under... general
I found the set-up for both sound and video
in MythTV...so its now working for HDMI audio..via Nvidia device 1
and Vdpau ..best..for displaying TV
so they are both working now...

But now I have forgotten my password for making changes
in the set-up..
ie I was trying to change the remote type in Mythbuntu Control Centre
to Windows media centre remote

How do I determine what it is?
or reset it?

Damn my memory is bad today..finally worked out what it was
thru a process of elmination!!

So as well ..now I have the Hauppauge remote..working
well at least I have tested some of the keys..and they work correctly
I will have to do more detailed work to see if they all work correctly.

I set it as Windows media center remote...in Mythbuntu Control Centre(infrared area)

Starting to look good...better not say too much..bound to have problems
when I get cocky!

I just upgraded my HTPC, removed Ubuntu and installed Fedora 16. The HDMI audio worked without much effort in Ubuntu, but not in Fedora.

To troubleshoot, I first used aplay to play a wave file:
Code:
aplay -vv ~/Music/file.wav
The terminal shows the file playing, but the sound output is silent. I then wanted to identify the correct output:
Code:
[paul@ASUS-HTPC ~]$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: ALC892 Digital [ALC892 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 7: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
So, the HDMI output is card 0, device 7. I then used that with aplay:
Code:
aplay -vv -D plughw:0,7 ~/Music/file.wav
The sound is now beng output through the HDMI!!

I found the solution in this post in the FedoraForums:

In case anyone else is having difficulties. This is what worked for me.

*** if you have aplay working, your problem may have been the same as mine (step 6)****

Fedora 16 64 bit
Kernel: 3.2.6-3.fc16.x86_64
Graphics card: GT 430

1. Assuming "aplay -D plughw:...." is working
2.. Download pavucontrol
3. Add the line "load-module module-alsa-sink device=plughw:x,x" to /etc/pulse/default.pa in its designated place
4. type 'killall pulseaudio' in the command line
5. type 'pavucontrol' in the command line
6. Go to the tab 'configuration' and make sure that all profiles are 'off'
7. Under the tab 'Output' you should see your audio controller, make sure that volume is set to 100 and that it is unmuted.
8. Fire up rhythmbox and try it out.

I hope this helps

I don't usually bump old threads, but I thought this was the best place for it.
