Is anyone here using a SSD with Linux? If so, what are the advantages and disadvantages?

I ordered parts for my future HTPC this weekend and it will contain a SSD!

I plan on running either Arch Linux (Ubuntu if I'm unable to set up Arch to my liking)

I've been looking into how I should go about setting up the partitions and all on the SSD and it seems there are a few main things you need to look out for :
- TRIM
- Partition alignement
- noatime and discard flags

And the advantages are basically the same as for Windows

I am using an SSD for my boot disk, OS, applications, & database.
My home directory is on a pair of raid 0 rotating media drives along with the MythTV recording directory.

The SSD makes booting linux and loading applications much faster. It also eliminates the disk contention that was screwing up recordings when myth was trying to do something with its database while recording TV.

I had some issues with the SSD in 11.10. It would boot so fast that some race conditions that did not show up with rotating media caused boot failures with an SSD. This seems to have been fixed in 12.04.

This sounds encouraging. I am tired of buying something and then finding out I need Windows to take advantage of some of the features.
