We ported JRiver Media Center (audio only) to Mac almost a year ago. We started on Linux a few months ago. More details are here:

For those who don't know about JRiver, here's the JRiver Owners thread:

We're starting to put out Linux builds here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=35.0

They're still very rough and incomplete, but they work.

JRiver Media Center is amazing on Windows.
I have used it since v12 (now 19). I now do music, movies, TV and photos with it.

It is the one reason my HTPCs are still Windows machines...

I am using a big mother of a Linux file server for my movies (fire up only for movies through WOL and remote shutdown), an always on Win8 running JRiver Media Server (a part of Media Center) holding music, photos and TV PVR (I am OTA), and small diskless HTPCs (Intel NUCs mostly) on each TV in the house.

Is it free ? No, but licensing is generous, as you only have to buy a single licence for all the PCs in your house (one licence per OS though). Their forums are very active and they listen to their customers. I have seen cases where one comment was placed one day and the next day the feature was available !

There is about one major version release a year, half price if you have purchased any previous version. And all minor releases are free updates.

Once the Linux version is on par with the Windows version on the video side of the business, bye bye M$, constant updates and patches, viruses and what not !

Many thanks to you Jim and to your team !

You're welcome. Thanks for your post.

The Linux version is audio only. It will probably be a couple of years before it catches up with the Windows version.

Here's a link to our Linux board:

Jriver on Linux???

The world is definitely becoming a better place... how could I have missed seeing this since last year...

I bought a windows license that I practically never used more than three years ago, I wonder if I re-use the same license on Linux...

All my three HTPCs run on CentOS with Plex home theater, it will be nice if Jriver can be installed for music only...

Will try it over this weekend...

It's a separate license. Sorry. Right now, the early releases have hard timeouts so you don't need a license to use it. This will change soon.

Will try nevertheless...

I have been searching the net on how to install my e-mu 0404 PCI sound card on Linux, and it seems it will not be a problem if I have the right version... will check tonight...

I hope all (or most of) the audio tweaking goodies are in the Linux version as well...

It's going to be a fun weekend...

It uses the emu10k1-fpga module:

Finally completed setting this up yesterday using Debian wheezy, and my E-MU 0404 card...

Output from the E-MU goes to a Yamaha pre-amp and from pre-amp to KRK rokit 8 g3 monitoring speakers...

Big big big thanks to the JRiver crew for such a fantastic product...

Phase II of the project is to find a suitable iPad app to control JRiver...

JRemote is quite pricey IMO and will like to know about other existing alternatives

Any advise?

Thanks

Absolutely concur with the other users...

Bought the app some 20 minutes ago... it's like a new toy at the moment...
