I guess i'm waiting to see how much 3D content will be 16:9 and how much will be scope.

Isn't 2 way masking adequate with scope? Why do you need 4-way masking?

I dont believe its going to work that way, contrary to what DP told me they thought would work!

Only reason I think that now is because the only 3D i have been able to get working is thru the PC. I guess that will work for Blu-Ray at least temporarily. But I will not be happy with that as a long term solution so they better get on figuring out the HDMI 1.4 aspect.

I have Avatar (the game) on my PC feeding the projector and 3D is perfect. I went this weekend and bought Avatar (the game) for XBOX360 since it so is 3D capable. I connected the XBOX360 directly to the projector to Input 3 (DVI) and set that input for 3D capability. I then tried all of the modes on the game and none seem to work properly. They have "reald", "sensio", "Line Interlaced", "Full Side by Side", "checkerboard", and "full checkerboard", and none seemed to work.

I looks like to me the only format it accepts is "Page Flipped - Frame Sequential"

So I think more is going to be involved to get Directv or Cable tv to work. Maybe a Cablecard into a PC for cable, but then Directv still hanging.

It is if all you want to do is mask the sides to reduce the screen size for 16:9 material then yes.

if the screen was 4 way masked with a 2.0 ratio I could reduce the height slightly for scope content. or reduce the sides slightly for 16:9 content. The 16:9 being slightly taller than the scope screen and the scope screen being slightly wider.

That way both will seem more equal in size.

I just recieved an email from DPI in part it said that the current models of Titan and Lightning do not currently decode side by side methid used bt Comcast, Cablevision, and soon to be used Directv. The format used by the Titan and Lightning 3D series uses an alternating-sequential format where the full left eye frame was delivered, followed by the full right eye frame. DPI is hopefull that a software revision will allow side by side

Maybe there will be some sort of transcoder that will convert one 3D format to any of the other 3D formats.

Unfortunately, thats what I had concluded. Hopefully soon there will be a software fix. I did find out today my Titan shipped with all the new features. So that was good news.

Now I have to make sure the Xpand glasses will work with TripleFlash @ 144Hz. Im not sure if they are capable of 144 Hz or just 120Hz.

I watched it some thru the internet but was not impressed. The streaming quality definitely did not seem HD. Streaming was glitchy and i have a 30mb connection.

Not near as good as some of the HD trailers i have downloaded in 3D and gaming.

But outside the overall poor picture resolution what really stood out to me was how things looked in the distance. It really gave a perception of standing there. The hills too, which just look flat in 2D really stood apart. You really got a sense of being there.

I wish I could have seen it thru Comcast. Im sure it would have been a much better delivery.

A part of an email response from DPI in regards to the Titan 3D being compatible with all the new 3D formats.

"As for the new formats that we expect to be able to display, the engineers are at this time deciding the best way to incorporate the most likely formats to be seen as quickly as possible. We are expecting to see these in the mid June and mid July timeframe"

Hope this will be true!

As for the new formats that we expect to be able to display . . . . I wonder why that was written like that. It could have been written As for all the potential new 3D formats, we expect to be able to display them all and to have software ready for the most likely of these formats as quickly as possible aiming for mid june to mid July.

As written it could mean this or it could be that they do not expect to be able to display all of the potential new 3D formats. Given the 3D source and transmission standards which are display agnostic there simply should be no case where things couldn`t be handled with a small external box and in most cases without a box.

I got the word from DP that the TITAN 1080p Reference 3D will be compatible with the DirecTV 3D system. My guess is they are probably going to have to look at potential firmware updates to adjust to any squirliness they encounter once all these different 3D sources start hitting the market or at least want people to not necessarily expect to go and buy a new 3D source the day it hits the market, plug it in and if it doesn't work then get mad at DPI (or any other display maker for that matter) when there may be some bugs that have to be ironed out.

I emailed DP because I was told they are selling 3D glasses kits now. My question was what brand and where we stand with the upgrade for the new 3D formats!

Email Response from DP ------->

Hope you are doing well. We offer Xpand glasses and emitters. Emitter needs are all about room design. It is typical that a single emitter can support a room about 40 feet deep and about 25 feet wide.

As far as the 3D software update goes, we are very close. On the compatibility side, we are testing new firmware from the factory that provides support for frame packed (3D Blu-ray) and side by side. We are looking at very good results viewing 3D Blu-ray discs that use the frame packed encoding, and we are qualifying the side by side formats. They have it working with TV broadcasts in the UK right now.

The development team is working on cleaning up a few bugs (none are show stoppers) and simplifying / automating the setup. We will be using the next generation of the firmware and OSD software for our 3D theater at INFOCOMM in 2 weeks. If all goes well, we expect to have final releases to start sharing with customers by the end of June.

The xpands everyone seemed to be using at ISE, weren't very nice, the shuttering worked well, but I kept looking at the inside of the glasses, and the reflections onto the back of the shutterglass. They could be bigger.

I was in Tokyo and saw a very short demonstation of some golf in 3D and was impressed. I look forward to having 3D golf and being able to watch the women standing near Toger Woods. Love how that stuff just pops out at you.

At least in this case, golf is like bothering with a,script in a porn film,a little superfluous.

We are in the last leg of a slow moving theater project. The Titan Reference looks great on a Studiotek 100! I did note that when I turned down the contrast a few clicks from the factory default the color temperature at 100 IRE fell in line with the lower levels. It would seem even this hot rod projector was crushing blue a little at the higher contrast settings.Haven't even touched the Lumagen gray scale settings yet however. I am considering renting a Photo Research PR 655 for the final calibration later in June.

Part of the reason that they are smaller is to get the pricing down.

DP 3d projectors are working thru Panasonic and Samsung 3d br players. They are also using the Xpand glasses and ir kits.

Expensive wine glasses, cheap wine? Not. Expensive great projectors deserve the best glasses. I am surprised at DPI.
