Yeah, I'm interested in the TEQ. Good info.

ADA is doing a firmware update, any new news?

Richard was kind enough to spend almost half an hour demonstrating the Trinnov processor to us when we went by the ADA room at CES. The first 20 minutes were spent going over the initial set-up procedure, showing the various screens and options. To say it is thorough is an understatement.

The proof came in the listening, when Richard played a lengthy clip from 'Book of Eli' and toggled multiple times between room correction Off vs On. It did a great job of cleaning up ringing and one-noted bass. As a result, dialogue was clearer and sound effects (lots of gunfire in the clip) had much more impact. The net result was like listening to higher resolution source material: sounds that were being masked by peaks and resonances could now be heard. You'll never get that from better DACs or better analogue circuitry, because they do nothing to ameliorate the real problem (the room's unwanted contributions).

And if they could do that with a random hotel room....

Thanks for the update. The Trinnov demonstration you had seems to be more extensive than the one I had at CEDIA. Was Curt there?

We knew it wouldn't be cheap, but I hope the price doesn't get crazy (not that it already isn't). Any guess-timate on a release date?

Agreed, most here know the room is the most important 'component'... and dealing with it is priority #1 if reference sonics are #1.

This is fantastic technology. I'm digging my Mach IV, too. Great machine.

I would not be too surprised were it to touch the $20,000 point for the TEQ-12 given that the this is the price of the least expensive Trinnov unit...

I think he was going to show up later, but we didn't stick around (Richard's demo covered most of our questions). Besides, I had met Curt before at a HT that Keith Yates was working on nearby in Newport Beach. Most of what Curt explained to me had to do with Trinnov's speaker re-mapping feature (correcting for speaker layout problems). By comparison, most of Richard's demo had to do with Trinnov's equalization (correcting for room problems).

The usual "soon". The price ($16k for the 12-channel version) is in line with what you'd pay for the equalization on something like a JBL Synthesis system, not typical consumer gear.

Got a chance to hear the Trinnov demoed when the room wasn't particularly crowded/noisy. Was impressed w/the bass cleanup, and the added clarity in other parts of the frequency spectrum.

Two quick things...

1. I have always had success in calling them; and

2. Richard may be tough to get as I know that he is under the weather...

I hope that helps...

I know, just my feeble attempt at humour...

Can someone summarise the outstanding issues on the ADA Processors? To my knowledge they are as follows but if someone can create a complete list that would be great:

1. PLIIx on TrueHD downmixing issue
2. Dolby Volume not enabled
3. 'Noise' in Subwoofer channel when PEQ filter on that channel enabled (Low level DSP error).

Thanks,

Adam

Those are the items that will be fixed...there is also, I believe, an HDMI 1.4 upgrade that will become available at some point in time...

I do not have anything against ADA. I hope you are not stupid enough to believe I am envious of YOU You see that I had cause to be concerned with post processing of the HD codecs? Theta fixed it in days with a firmware update, DIY. My comments are sincere, not trolling like you do. Good luck to all with the ADA.

*Yes I am an ADA dealer but that does not have bearing on my opinion. I removed the Mach 3 to go to Lexicon

Was the Integra DHC as good as the Lexicon. I do not think it has the sophisticated room correction of the Lexicon.

The Trinnov label is removed from the faceplate, no way any version of it will be offered on the Mach iv. The TEQ units are still not ready, probably second quarter. They sound like they will be even more than suggested in price. A preamp with Trinnov is likely, but not any time soon, and will likely cost more than the combo presently, probably by a significant margin. They are looking for 2011 to be big year for them for the preamps, and TEQs. The TEQs are a major project, they've been working with them since 2003. All processing is done internally at 64 bit floating point resolution. This will be significantly higher than competing products utilizing Trinnov. Lots of positive buzz. I hope this helps...
Will the Trinov TEQ12 be analog or digital in/out?

Not the best scenerio IMO. I would have provided both an analog AND AES digital input, 48khz or 96khz. Analog output is fine as this device will normally go in right before the power amps.

The digital input option would allow a processor with digital output to feed the TEQ12 with a direct digital path. ADA could have a digital output option on their processors and others could too.

The cost of this option would be small as the expensive parts are in the ADC and DAC sections which are already there. And as far as connector space, just use a DB25 (pc parallel port) connector which will carry 8 channels of balanced AES. There is already the TASCAM standard for the pinout as it's widely used on the pro side.

P.S. better yet...

Make a version of the TEQ12 with just digital I/O. Then provide a digital I/O tap right before the DACs in the ADA processor. Just like the old tape in and out loops of the 1970s preamps. That way the cost of the TEQ12 would be significantly less for ADA processor owners. The more expensive full analog I/O version would for the Theta people .

Wouldn't HDCP limit that output to 48/16 resolution? Or do you think ADA would be allowed to sell a consumer device that could output 8 channels of 96/24 PCM?
