Yeah, I learned that same lesson the hard way as well. I was freaking out trying to bring back bass that wasn't there in the signal. Piped in my own pink noise from SMAART, and BAM! all was well.

Now you get to have fun.

Spent the better part of the weekend writing a serial driver for my Control4 system. PITA! I'm mostly done but just thought I'd ask what surround modes you guys have settled on. I just can't see myself going to ALL those vasious modes at any given time. Most of my viewing is DVR surround encoded stuff and Blu-Ray. What do you guys mostly use?
Chris

My Home Theater is a work in progress.

Fwiw,

I like discrete es/ex for 5.1 / 7.1 signals.

AGL enhanced for 2 channel video work.

And quad bypass for up mixing 2 channel music. Or stereo for, well, stereo.

Agree. AGL is great for 2 channel, TV/Satelite broadcasting.
I use the DescreteEX/ES for BlueRay and Pl2 Movie for 2 channel Movies.
Music is more personal and I found that it would depend on the material. I like the Quad mode for Video clips but for CDs I prefer Stereo Enhanced or Stereo 5.

Attached is a screen shot form the Audio Processor page of my Crestron System which shows the 2-channel and multi-channel surround modes that I have programmed...I hope it is helpful...notice the "Cycle Surround Mode" button in the top row which gives me access to all surround modes in addition to those with specific buttons and, before anyone asks, the "windows" contains a wack of information including the current surround mode...

Ahem.....

I present the following:

It's on now!

serial number 0002.

I'm pretty sure it's the first "production" unit. If 0001 exists, it probably just spent the weekend in Fl for EHX, or it lives at Albert Langella's house.

Joel, fantastic!

I will have AMX and I hope I can get a similar layout
on my ipad to be able to have the whole control
of mach 4!

Just a question..
Reading the manual you can see that
some features (for example to change several parameters of THX ultra2)
are accessible by pc only (and not on the front panel);
Could you get all these controls as well on the touch screen (ipad)?

The answer is yes provided that there is an RS-232 code for the control / set the parameter [NOTE: I am controlling the MACH IV using the RS-232 codes rather than the IR codes]...the trick, which has not been shown on the one screen shot that I have posted is "nesting"...that is, there is a secrete button to dig down into the controls that is not known to my wife or kids so that i) operation remains simple for them and ii) they can not get to the parameters and make a mess of the setup...

The other issue is the window that provides two-way feedback was a lot of work as the information stream had to be parsed and, in some case, "translated" to be more user friendly...

I hope this helps...

stephan, I wouldn't do this if it were not fun for me to do. At the end of the day, this is still my passion and while I certainly don't fall into the tax bracket of most that post in this forum; I do actually get to do this professionally.

pretty cool job....

Plus I have this huge extended family that I get to see twice a year at Cedia and CES.

Ho Joel,

Could you share the reason for the apparent difficulty parsing the polled strings, even if there is a need to poll the device and how untranslated the polled string(s) were?

Thank you very much

I will take a stab noting that I am not a Crestron programmer and has my system professionally programmed...

The difficulty / problem stems from the fact a lot of the information is numerical codes which has to be deciphered into something that is meaningful to a human sitting in a theatre and this creates difficulty because one has to account for all possibilities / values...in the event that you want more details I have no problems asking my CI to provide more insight...

The other problem was getting the window to remain constant as the ADA automatically spits everything out as one string so this had to be addressed to i) only get the information you want and ii) stop the window from continuously scrolling...again, I can ask my CI to jump in should that help...

first of all I apologize for possible mistakes..
anyway I try to explaine...
well, in the rhapsody mach 4 you have
8 hdmi you can connect BD, HDTV, media player, ps3 etc..to.

Which source do you connect to balance outputs?
If connecting a BD to the balance outputs
does the sound during movies get better than hdmi?
and you can enjoy the same processing modes available
with a sorce connected via hdmi?(for example in the D2v you have digital DSP and analog DSP)

The XLR outputs (balanced) connect to the amplifier inputs. HDMI connect souces to Rhapsody and Rhapsody to display or scaler.

In the case of a TEQ, you connect XLR outs to the TEQ inputs (left side facing the back) and then XLR outs of the TEQ go to your amplifier.

You can assign whatever processing you'd like to either 2 channel or multichannel input signals- there are rather extensive lists available in the setup software. Analog vs Digital doesn't really matter.

Where did you buy your ADA? The warranty goes through the dealer who sold you the ADA...but so far I haven't heard someone to have any defect units...

Dan,
Someone said a while back that they thought the MSRP for the new Reference Mach IV was $40K. Is that correct?
Thanks

yes, MSRP is 40k. I threw mine in the rack the other night ,ported my settings from the TEQ and listened to a couple clips: HUGE ! I can't really overstate the improvement. To my ears and in my experience (that covers all iterations of Rhapsody/Reference to date) , this is the first Reference that truly eclipses the sound quality of the Rhapsody of the same generation. The 16 channel capability has not yet been utilized because I have a client demo to compare Rhapsody/TEQ-12 to the Reference.

ADA has now crossed into Theta territory, and I do not say that lightly.
