Most DTV STBs in US decode 2-ch audio. If you want to hear 5.1 AAC from Japan DTV, you'll need an AV processor that handles that. Or do the STBs provide 5.1 there?

I agree, if you have a BD player with onboard decoding, you will not need more HD codecs inside the AP-20. Sorry for false alarm.

No , I have not called Sona. I am not sure I have heard of them, unless you are pronouncing it differently?

I am not quite sure what the DTV units here decode, but I will look into it now that you have brought it to my attention. Thanks you.

But, besides that, 90% of my time in the theater is for a Bluray, I don't watch much TV in there.

Dave, in reading your build thread I see that you've taken your own measurements for FR in your room; what equip are you using (interface, software, microphone, etc)

I am using a ECM8000 calibrated mic with an ART DUAL preamp connected to my laptop and using REW software.

I heard back from Hiroaki Suzuki, President of Sona. His reply said:

>>Sona would be glad to do the room EQ job.
Sona has been doing room EQ jobs for long years.
Sona is famous for doing THX room EQ for professional studios
and screening rooms.
I believe Sona is fully qualified to do room EQ for high-grade

He would enjoy hearing from you. You can see their website sona.co.jp and use their contact address, info@sona, and tell Suzuki-san that Roger sent you.

I will give them a call and see what they have to say. Thanks for the recommendation.

Hi Dave,

believe me: the S-1200 and the EVO 707 are two completely different machines. The S-1200 replaces Krell's former Showcase processor, and doesn't sound any better than a Showcase with HDMI. Considering how detrimental HDMI is to sound quality, it's no surprise you didn't like it. I auditioned it too in my setup and my HTS 7.1 could beat the crap out of it anytime, blindfold and with their hands tied behind their back.

The EVO 707, on the other hand, replaces the HTS 7.1 and is reportedly "vastly superior" (quote) in all senses. I could never audition one, though I'd really like to, but suffice to look at its innards to know it's a beast. I've also read good things of Krell's proprietary ARES room correction algorithm, plus Krell's notorious slam in low frequencies could quite possibly be to your liking if you're a movies guy.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the EVO 707, if I were you
