I can establish a remote connection to use VNC Viewer with the RS20i through the Proxy but can't seem to make a connection if I attempt to initiate 'setup on' via the Proxy - I will have another go tonight.

Sounds very similar to the problems I had... Be sure you are using the ploytec ASIO drivers, as i was never originally given those specific ones which led to months of delays trying to get Dirac to run.

I had ended up changing every single piece in the hardware chain (except the AP20), and reloaded all the software several times. It only finally worked once I was told about the Ploytec.

I feel the pain - good luck! I will say that it definitely is worth the hassle though as the sound is awesome once it is running!

Exactly where was the demonstration, and if possible could you share how it was executed (gear/room, material, etc)?

Was right next to the Crestron booth, out in the middle at AD booth. Personal 2 person demos. I was very impressed with it. I'm interested in selling either it or the Datasat, haven't decided which yet.

Stephen,

The Ploytec drivers are only useful if you are using the USBPre version 1 microphone preamp. Are you using that hardware? The Ploytec drivers were a 3rd party improvement to the ASIO drivers provided by the USBPre people. The ASIO drivers for their new USBPre V2 hardware are much more robust.

Whose microphone preamp are you using?

Your problem appears to be with that vendors ASIO drivers. You can qualify that they are working by testing them using REW. If they work with that software they should work with Dirac Live.

When I tried to load the drivers many months ago they would not load thru the USB port on my laptop. After many phone calls it was determined that I was using the USB3 port instead of the USB2 port on my Win7 computer. Maybe they have fixed it by now.

OOps Carl is correct - i totally spaced and forgot that i had originally tried the CEntrance pre-amp in the suggested setup, but it was a no- go. The USBPre 1 was a far better solution with the ploytec - it worked immediately.

Thx Carl - haven't tried your earlier advice yet about testing with REW but I am using USBpre v1 so will first try the ploytec driver - fingers crossed that fixes everything.

It is all systems go for me to run Dirac Live - just needed the right ASIO driver. Won't have time to do anything more tonight but will update everyone when I do the calibration and hear the results.

Becoming a dealer for one of them. Discussed it at length with both. I need to help some of the Country Music folks around here see what these can do smile.gif. Lots of studios and money around here, surely there's a market.

You could take one of those bus tours that go by the artist home and jump off put a card and brochure in the mailbox then jump back on the bus.

For me the school is still out. Both DATASAT-DIRAC and ADA -TRINNOV were impressive. The ADA demo was almost to much processing to my ear and not 100% natural. Even that said they both sounded great.

What I think made the D&D rise above was the large open untreated room and how it tamed that

An ADA Rhapsody and TEQ 12 will be about $2K more than the DS RS20i. Tough call.

But if you ever need satellite data encryption that closes the gap!

At CEDIA they had a sample of the Dolby HD card on display (in a glass case). It goes in one of the expansion slots. So I would guess the release is imminent.

Have no fear!!

I assure you that the license details between Dolby and Datasat have been worked out. Datasat and Dolby are competitors in the Commercial Cinema market space but not in the 'High Home Theater' space where the RS20i lives. The new decoder card is coming soon (with a few surprises onboard!) and will be shipped free of charge to all RS20i owners.

Carl,

It's been a while since you talked about the DL2.  Will the DL2 have the same functionality as the RS20i just with fewer channels and absent the pre-pro capabilities?

Seems like I remember an 8 channel DL2?

Yes, the DL2 is 8 channels of Dirac Live runtime. It has unbalanced analog IN/OUT (RCA phono connectors). We will follow that with an 8 channel DL2b which will have balance IO brought out to analog XLR connectors. Both packages will have optional rack ears.

We are close to begin accepting preorders and should be shipping before XMas Holidays!

In addition to dolby digital and true hd,
in this card,
Will be available any prologic IIx or other
Surround modes to get 7.1 from 5.1 or 2 channels sources?

And new dedicated amps showed at Cedia when will be released?

Datasat has a policy of not saying much until they have real product to show. As result even tho the Datasat staff are all mates and cronies of mine I have little to share. I have not seen a complete list of features for the new decoder card, just a few teases let by the engineering crew. I have been told that I will have one to test soon. If I am allowed I will share more then.

The new Datasat amplifiers were well received at CEDIA. However I have yet to hear of pricing or delivery dates for them. More to come. I promise!

Carl - I am thinking of swapping over my current L&R speakers for a completely different brand to the rest of my HT speakers and I am worried about the possible tonal mismatch that may present. Does Dirac do a good job of overcoming such a problem?

Yes, within bounds. If the differences are about coloration due to frequency response then I would say a resounding, "Yes!". But if the differences are about dramatic shift in the technology and loudspeaker quality I would say the benefits of Dirac Live would be less. I can tell you in my own system for a long time I ran big legacy horns for L & R, a domed mid and tweeter loudspeaker for the Center and tall arrays of ribbons for the surrounds! That was an oddball collection of loudspeaker technology. However they were all quality loudspeakers and Dirac Live melded them well.

So my answer to your question is a conditional, "Yes!" with the caveat that I described. I hope that I answered your question.

I was looking through the Datasat specifications and I was wondering how the Digital outputs could be used? Are there any power amplifiers with digital ins?

Yes, many commercial amplifiers use AES inputs; typically the single connector is one pair of channels (one xlr would be L,R, etc). This is especially true for amps that have DSP built into the unit (Lab Gruppen, Powersoft, d&b audiotechnik, etc)

-OR AES can be used to feed outboard DACs (though the output DACs on the RS20i sound very good in my opinion) like those from Weiss, etc.

Finally ran Dirac Live tonight. Process was very easy to do, really no more complicated than an Audyssey Pro calibration but with much more flexibility albeit the measurements take longer to run. Haven't done extensive listening tests yet but with what I have done I have noticed greater clarity in the centre channel, a more enveloping sound stage and the detail/placement of sound being much improved. Very impressed.

I did a quick Dirac calibration as well yesterday. I need to fiddle a lot more but so far it's promising.
