Holly sh!t, Spy Satellite 3d conversion hits suburbia!

The ultimate Positive Parallax converter that renders a 180 degree arch behind the screen with uncanny mind blowing accuracy that the President of Doremi said was world class, now 45-70K cheaper.

Blackmagic Design Announces New Teranex Prices
Orlando, Florida, USA - December 13, 2011 - Blackmagic Design (www.blackmagic-design.com) today announced new prices for its Teranex VC100 dual channel video processor, now at US$19,995.

The Teranex VC100 model now includes all available processing at one flat cost of US$19,995. This feature set and processing previously cost almost US$90,000 and this new price point is a dramatic price reduction. This price reduction means customers can now get the maximum processing features at one single price and without any extra cost.

The Teranex VC100 now includes, as standard, extremely high quality de interlace, up conversion, down conversion, SD and HD cross conversion, SD and HD standards conversion, automatic cadence detection and removal even with edited content, noise reduction, adjustable scaling, aspect ratio conversion and smart aspect ratio 4:3 to 16:9 conversion, all with full time code and multi channel audio conversion. Also included is 3D dual channel conversions, new patent pending 3D simulation and the forthcoming 3D toolkit for matching cameras in 3D rigs for perfect alignment.

In addition, for a limited time, any existing customers of Teranex VC80 and VC100 models can upgrade to the full software feature set, including dual channel operation, by paying a flat fee of US$3,000. This will upgrade the power of their Teranex processor to the top of the line processing, including all the features listed above. This software will be available directly from Teranex.

“When we acquired Teranex a week ago, it was quickly clear that with 55 different software and hardware options on the price list, customers were presented with thousands of combinations of product options. This needed to be simplified,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “Now with one incredibly powerful and high end model, it is easy to purchase Teranex, plus the product is positioned back at the premium point of the market that is more sustainable for the future. What’s also very exciting is the product that 2 weeks ago cost just under US$90,000 is now available for $70,000 less than before at only US$19,995!”

Very interesting news indeed. However, don't you still need other equipment to do your magical 2D to 2.75D conversions such as the DOREMI ghx-10 & Doremi Dimension 3-D as you noted here? http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...2#post19845442

Not trying to give away your special sauce and certainly 20K is cheaper than 90K no matter how you slice it, but it seems that there is more to this than just adding the Teranex. Or is it now possible with all the addons included in the Teranex to just go from the source (i.e., Blu-Ray or Kaleidescape) to the Teranex to the display?

I am sure with some creativity some less delicate sauces can be concocted than mine that would still work.

For example the new Panasonic 65vx300 will take two full 1080p streams in hdsdi completely negating the need for the dimension 3d hdmi conversion. Also there are lesser alternatives to the ghx-10.

You could play BD on an sdi modded oppo and call it a day.

Look from a business standpoint this really screws with my billionaire business, but from the standpoint of social responsibility and the trickling factor of high quality video to the masses (which admittedly is a completely socialist agenda for a more utopian home cinema) this is good.

this is good.

Interesting mix of words for a high end A/V biz guy; in addition to underlined also includes responsibility and masses.

Nice to see you back and posting.

That might explain why the VC-100 and VC-80 Teranex units on fleabay sold so easily. Now I'm bummed.

Wish I had spotted this announcement way back on the 13th?

OK...I see alot of your customers being rather pissed now. Let us hope this "price reduction" shows more success than your brute force marketing attempts

But I admit it continues to be a hard sell. For "true" 3D content you need a $500.- Oppo and new Blu-Rays. And depending on your 3d display device even this is hardly an experience that made any relevant market impact. The only convincing 3D I have seen was a passive double-stacked Lumis with handpicked content.

For "Converted" 2D->"2.75D" you need a 20k device (former 90k). Advantage: You can watch your existing movies in 2.75D (bring on Casablanca). And there is alot more money to be made compared to the $500 3D OPPO. Well, not quite as much now - because sales will hardly be 5x as before.

If Malnik saw the Thin Red Line on the Terry he would be amazed, if Jackson saw return of the king on the terry he would not believe his eyes. The faroudja quadrupler was $30,000 for a pretty soft looking image when it was introduced, this processor works.

I have abandoned my brute force approach, i believe the internet can act as a lighting rod to ill will. Everytime I have stated the fact that I termed a business Home Theater back in 1979, all hell has broken loose in my life. IOW there are some deep heeled people that believe they are the owners of the HT business and are supremely offended by innovation from outside their group specially by a Cuban immigrant. I have to deal with harassment and near daily impediments, including sharing parsed out of context sensitive communications to my clients (so that they don't pay), incomplete, shoddy reverse engineering of my constructs to reveal inaccurate partial bill of material and the complete transfer/THEFT of my intellectual property. The most concerted Anti trust anti minority discrimination effort you never read in books. I believe these cqs_Krs killed my bride, with pure ill will and through their clumsy attacks ... So let's leave it at that. Yes I am much less interested in effecting change nowadays. As long as greed, graft, corruption, monopoly and secret handshakes are the driving forces for this industry, the world certainly is not ready for my contributions.

I am sure blackmagic is looking at ways of making a less expensive box, as long as they don't cut on PQ, it is a welcomed development.

Mebbe someday they will do a sequel to "Scarface". Instead of being about a Cuban immigrant mobster, this will be about a Cuban immigrant who revelutionized home theater without getting the credit he deserves.

Peter certainly nevers fails to amuse!

Hopefully this can become the first convincing converted Faux 3d sequel to reach cinemas. I think that's a big issue. With any single converted Faux 3d movie being more or less a failure (let's see how Star Wars and Titanic are doing) it gives Teranex "converted 2.75D" a really bad image before ever seeing it.

I haven't seen it either. So I cannot speculate about it's quality. But I have a hard time understanding why not a single hand tuned converted movie (and many took months of scene by scene optimization) provided a convincing 3D experience while a realtime automatic converter "is said" to be a small revolution and savior of 3D Home Theater(c).

Narnia, Deadly hallows and g-force work great as conversions. Clash of the Titans and Conan don't. The Teranex can be as good as the former and way better than the later.

What is for sure is that the Teranex is better than any German Post House conversions. It is difficult to believe that in a country known for high quality precision optics and the craddle of 3d that these 3d nazi's are able to sell prodigious amounts of horrible 3d conversions through AMAZON DE.

The fourth reich has sprouted in Germany with an onslaught of horrible 23d conversions, the international community has to intervene and eliminate these monsters before they grab hold of the continent.

I am serious. WTF Germany?

Your mileage will vary, for example do not buy a terry if you have a samsung or sony tv, you will get neuralgia. Also the terry on a non color corrected dolby wheel system will give neuralgia after 4 hours.

Passive is awesome, LG, Vizio, RealD Cinema that is the ideal match for the terry, you will enjoy movies for weeks without wanting to take your glasses off.

Peter, for those of us with too many family members to count having been killed in the Holocaust, I think references to the whatever number "reich"
are quite inappropriate here in this or frankly any other civilized forum on or off the internet. Please refrain from such comments which insult some of us and which only belittle the monstrosities committed by them. Thanks.

I do appreciate the genius of your home theater worksmanship although raiding much of my retirement funds to put in one of your systems just isn't in the cards for me! Regardless of who actually coined the term "home theater"!

My apologies . My family was linked to that tragic period itself, as my grandfather who graduated from the class of 04 with FDR was able to snatch from a cruise-ship returning to Nazi Germany a family of 8 Chec friends.

Every Christmas when I was a kid my parents would tell me about the ordeal and how they nearly went back. There were 40,000 people parading in Havana harbor against any aid to the refugees(quite frankly the US didn't want anything to do with them either), but my GF stuggled, risked position and was harrased for doing this but he got them visas to Cuba and to the US(under some intellectual property treasure loophole as these were Pilsner master Brewers) , years later my brother was looking at forms to submit him for YAD VASHEM induction. So we are all very much aware of your plight. Now there is a movie script with a Cuban motif.

I simply was denouncing a very negative concerted effort coming out of Germany today-counterfeit 3D.

For the true big boys here, a Teranex now does become an option and it is one amazing device able to substantially improve performance in many many ways and just not in upconversion considering upconversion for those peons here who only have a 1920 x 1080 panels and watch only lets charitably call it 2K source material don't need upconversion.

Vivitek? diminishing return only goes so far. I was at CES My favorite was the Sony 4K, go figure, the JVC was very nice but DTS used the Panasonic for thier demo. The $1,500 Optoma was also a great value but I like the panasonic more.

Black Magic Designs is a unique company in the professional video market. They started by making small interface boxes and sold them at consumer price points. Like an SDI to Component converter from say AJA Video would cost over $1000, the Black Magic product would cost $300.

Then they bought Davinci who made high end color correctors costing well over $100K. Black Magic came up with a new price schedule in that the base product software is available FREE to download.

Next was Echo Labs who for the past 25+ years made lower end video production switchers. Echo went bankrupt and Black Magic scooped them up and transformed the entire product line into highly affordable prosumer products.

So now they got Teranex and I'm sure it will be the same model.

The Jury is still out on whether this business model will work in the pro video industry. It's not sure if there is enough of a market to support such a pricing model. Time will tell.

I am in London and today I was playing with a dual 65k terry rig. This is awesome news for every videophile. Totally recommended.

And with hdmi, this will solve multichannel audio time delay issues.

Yep, better, hdmi in out. No need for Doremi ghx 10 plus dimension 3D.
