Curious what some of you are looking forward to seeing at CEDIA this year.

I attended the last two shows and had a blast. Expecially at some of the evening dinners with some of the AVS members. It was a good time.

As to what we can expect this year in technology. I assume OLED and 4K (TV and projectors) will be the topics. Not sure what to expect on the audio side. I was hoping Lexicon would come through with their new processor but I believe that has been canned for a while. I assume Dolby will show off their TrueHD 96k up-sampling technology.

Brad,

It doesn't matter they'll let anyone attend. I've been to the last two and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Wandering around the show I've always been completely open about being an enthusiast rather than industry professional and I've never had any negative reaction at all. Quite the opposite really ... most exhibitors seem pleased that an enthusiast would take the time to attend, and show genuine interest in my experiences and system.

Cheers,

Peter M

Mark,
Are you going to be hooking up with Datasat again?

On a side note, that Saturday dinner with you, Keith, Itai, etc. was one of the highlights of my weekend last year.

Cheers,

Really? Hmm, interesting - looking at the CEDIA site, it sure seemed like they wanted some kind of professional affiliation - I'll have to check again, or find the back door. tongue.gif

I'll be there. Looking forward to seeing my AVS friends I get to see once a year. Always fun to see the new toys, too.

The German place was last year, right? They all run together smile.gif

Seperate checks if it's Ruth's; before Haflich says different. Will be for me anyway, I get hosed every year with Mark's mental math LOL. I asked when there, they were perfectly happy to have broken it up. Start the controversy early biggrin.gif

I'd also be interested in going but not sure how closely checked I would be. I have friends who could affiliate me with their AV company but if I had to produce documents proving I was actually employed there, well thats a different story

[ laughing ] Exactly. Except I think it was more. Which was no big deal I thought for me even though I ate/drank light; Cathy didn't eat or drink. It was when it doubled I knew something was wrong.eek.gif

There is no checking. You can say you are with Joes Dog Grooming at registration. As long as you pay for the ticket and are over 18, in you go to the candy store...

Once you are sure you are going, do your registration on-line. It's cheaper to register in advance before the advance cutoff. Once registered you will get a code Emailed to you. At CEDIA you go to a self service Kiosk, enter the code and it will spit out a badge. That badge gets you in. No CEDIA Police will verify who or what you are smile.gif. But I wouldn't put "Joes Dog Grooming" (unless you really are). Whatever you put will show on your badge and everyone you talk to can/will look at it. This year, the online form asked what you want the badge to say company wise. I expect it would be happy for you to put about anything there, your name, "AVS enthusiast", etc. May even let you leave company blank.

All registered! Work permitting, this will be my first CEDIA and first trip to Indianapolis, looking forward to it. And I didn't even mention my dog grooming business.

So any hotel recommendations or ones to avoid?

JW Marriott- newest/biggest, connected

Marriott-closer, connected

Hyatt-closer, connected

Westin-closest, connected

There's plenty others downtown, but those are the good, directly connected hotels to the Convention Center.

Conrad-nicest

Canterbury-very nice, next door to St. Elmo's Steakhouse

Any specific questions, feel free to hit me up.

Best of luck

Had to chuckle at this one...................small story on airport hotels:

In 1998 I flew into San Diego for the 1998 World Series with my son who was 11 years old at the time. Hopped in our rent-a-car and found the nearest hotel to the tram/airport that runs to Qualcom Stadium.

So..............when we got back from the game, unwound and turned off the lights, my son was asking me about all that banging and screaming next door. Well, the banging and screaming didn't stop until late in the morning. Absolutely no sleep that night..........and we both had a hard time staying awake the next day' game!. Wow..............hooker hotel.........who would have thought!! smile.gif

Needless to say................I tend to stay away from airport hotels. rolleyes.gif

BTW, I plan on attending if all works out...............

Haflich? I knew his mother. She would not appreciate this bitchen about his math.

Dinners will be Weds, Thursday, and Friday night. I ain't doing Ruth's. there are much better and much cheaper restaurants in Indy. The Bland was supposed to do it last year and after planning it did not show up at Cedia because he had to supervise the installation of a new multi platform abucus or whatever in his medical office. When he didn't show Haflich ended up taking the dinner over. Weds night gathering will be small. Thurs and Fri night much bigger. Actually it's kinda scary thinking about Jeff supervising an abucus installation. This is a guy who thinks home theater 3D is a Victoria Secret's video about bra cup sizes.

AV Science will have a booth presence at a manufacturer's booth this year, with a meet and great and a free goodie. Could be gift certificates for Joe's Dog Grooming. Then again it could be just Joe or his dog.

Is Darin going this year? People tend to bitch about the price of Ruth's and its a national chain available in most large cities. If that's where the dinner will be, I will of course be there because I can't march through Cedia on an empty stomach and my stomach is my best friend.
