The press is running a story about how our local community movie theatre is going to shut down in January because it can't afford the cost associated with transitioning from film based projection to digital projection.

I'm a techy guy and have put together a home based media server, sound system and projector setup, that works really well.

What could I do for our local community movie theatre to help ease their transition ? ie, what sort of equipment are they being "forced" to purchase and how could I help them do it cheaper ?

Thanks

I think you need to give the budget the movie theatre has to upgrade to digital, otherwise nobody can help you really. I would assume if the labour involved is done for free by volunteers or whatever, they could pay well under half of what a professional company would quote them to install. But of course you need someone who knows what they're doing to coordinate the whole project for free...

Check to see if they can even afford the hardware required. If not , then likely there is nothing that can be done to save it. A sad thing but even if you donate your time and others as well it won't be enough.
