My Home Theater of the Month- Le Petit Trianon

There are more than a handful of [op amps] that sound so good that most designers want to be using them as opposed to discreet transistors. Dave Reich, Theta 2009

http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/photogallery/new-audio-gear-ces-p-z?image=8 I noticed the mention of a new upsampler chip for the Casablanca.

http://pennamedia.wordpress.com/2013/01/13/ces-2013-high-end-audio-fotok/#jp-carousel-4060 Nice pic. I did not know that ATI markets and manufactures CAT amps. Now I understand why the latest demos use those speakers.

Sorry, I didn't have time to elaborate earlier.

Around 2004, CAT approached Morris Kessler of ATI to manufacture an amplifier for them that wouldn't break- the request was: "build the amp you've always wanted to build, but couldn't because your OEM customers had cost restrictions" . What this resulted in was a line of amplifiers (and a sister company) called Monaco Audio; these amps are (as far as I know) still on display at Creative Home Theater in Las Vegas.

Fast forward to 2006, and Monaco has now morphed into CAT amplifiers with a different aesthetic (Neal Feay) and more models- at this time there is no official partnership with Theta (though Theta processors are used in CAT systems- they are not spec'ed by CAT). CEDIA 2007 there is talk about ATI purchasing Theta, by the following CES ATI owns Theta and that's when CAT product was used to demo Theta gear.

I'm proud to say I was integral in that first suite at CES that contained CAT and Theta gear- both the multi-channel system and the 2 channel system. (I was general manager at CAT at that time)

Now, CAT specs Theta processing in their highest level systems- usually with multiple GenVIII DACs, and several CAT DSPs, followed by a plethora of CAT amplification (powered by SAE..says so right on the front).

There's your brief history, Bulldogger.

Thanks! I posted before about the stellar system I heard a few years back with CAT speakers and Theta electronics. CAT gets high marks from me.

From the SoundVision link above: That's not to say Theta's abandoning the Casablanca, though. The company showed a new digital upgrade modules that combines the functions of three previous modules (including digital input, Dolby/DTS processing, DSP room correction, etc.) and adds a Silicon Labs reclocking chip for better digital sound. Incredibly, the new module works with every Casablanca ever made, going all the way back to 1996.

Anyone know more info???

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco

Would really like to know more details about the supernova. I'm in the market for a new ssp, nothing else in the $10k range excites me. An mini Casablanca sound really exciting!

The new processor is due in the 3rd quarter of this year. That's the only additional info I saw.
