For all Kaleidescape owner's, the "Store" is now offering HD downloads. For several reasons they don't refer to it as Blu-ray, but it is the same BR HD quality. Average cost seems to be about $17 per movie.

Hi Jim,

1. Are the downloads time limited or are they yours forever?
2. Also, what about new releases and which major studios are NOT on board yet?

Very cool. 90% of my movie viewing is new releases.

Hi Jeff,

Yes, the movies stay in your Server as long as you want them there. It is true that Warner is currently the only major studio participating, but K is diligently working on bringing other's onboard. We'll see where this goes, but up to now the store is seeing a lot of traffic and is doing very well. To be clear, these are movies that become available in the store on the same day they are released on DVD/BR. This is NOT the same product that Prima Cinema is selling.

Are you able to access the store and see filesizes? GigaOM claims that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is 54GB, which would actually mean it's considerably higher quality than Blu-ray (which was a 12.87Mbps VC-1 encode: 30GB for the movie and 40GB for the whole disc).

The downloads are not limited. The service is great, Loading takes some time so let it go at night. You can also upgrade any existing DVD on your system to HD for $6.99. Don't have to do anything. Just let the service see what you have, select which you care to upgrade and it will replace it. Awesome feature and a great deal.

PM me if you need anything or want a new shiny Vault. The M700 is a beast. If you do not currently have one you are missing out.

What is really great is their $ 6.99 DVD to Blue Ray HD update offers.

Don't need to load another Blu ray into the M-700 on old classics movies that now have been released in HD
