Does anyone know if ada has problems to build resp. ship the ADA Cinema Reference Mach IV?

i paid my dealer in advance in december and he promised me to deliver in january.

till now he is telling me that ada is not able to give him a shipment date.

i send two mails to richard, one here by pm, one directly to ada, no response...

i´m afraid my money is lost.

hope somebody knows anything.

Since you're in Germany, I'm guessing that the purchase was made via dealer via distributor. My guess is that you're caught between product runs. Considering the cost of the Reference is so high, I'd say that the money has been remitted to ADA and that they don't have enough orders yet to produce a run. They need around 25 orders to justify a product run for the Reference; that's a pretty tall order globally. Be patient also, there have been delays on parts as well in the past: the HDMI boards come from Taiwan, the Trinnov hardware comes from France, the touchscreen was a delay for quite some time before the first run. We waited 2+ months for our unit to ship (and it's the second one built...ever). The Cinema Reference is a very rare bird, I'd try remaining in contact with your dealer, if that doesn't work- contact the distributor, then contact ADA if you're still not satisfied.

Hopefully, this gives you some of the info you were looking for.

Note he ha s already sent two messages to Richard.

There's no excuse for this lack of communication. I have seen this before in another thread, that is ADA not responding. At this price level and the fact that payment was made in advance I would expect Richard to personally update these customers at least monthly without a reminder.

They want to play in and reap the benefits of the exclusive high end, then practice the level of customer service that comes with it.

thanks for your replies.

dan, if it is like you mention, that they wait to get 25 units, no problem.

but as glimmie says it would be no problem to send me just an email stating that, and maybe apologize...

you waited 2 month plus, i´m waiting now close to 6!!! month.

i met richard several times at cedia, ces or the ise in amsterdam, i think he´s really a nice guy, so not answering my mails made me think my money is gone...

btw, i didn´t pay 50%, i paid it full!

Uwe, you are a very nice guy, cutting ADA a lot of slack. If ADA fulfillment strategy is as described by Dan, and this was not communicated to you (for fear of losing the sale I presume), before they took your money, this is a total outrage. I would would classify this as a deceptive trade practice. Unfortunately, taking them to court in germany wont get you very far, but I personally would have been all over the forums venting my outrage, advising people to avoid ADA like the plague. You are apparently a much nicer guy than me, and they are taking advantage of that by being non responsive, rather than bending over backwards to correct the
situation. Just my opinion of course...

I also have the same problem with ADA , I ordered a remote MX900 IR Remote for Suite HD 1.4 on Feb. 2012 through ADA distributor in China , directed to me by ADA , - Sentiment Hi-Fi , it was USD 499.00 and I am told to pay in full , later Sentiment Hi-Fi told me that there was no stock from ADA and asked me to wait , on July 2012 , Sentiment Hi-Fi told me to use iPad 2 to control my Suite as MX900 is "really old style" and that he could use my money to set up the remote program for me and asked me to wait again , I bought in an iPad 2 and wait patiently , months & months later , Sentiment Hi-Fi seemed too busy to take care of me and upon my repeated emails pushing , he promised to return the money to me . to quote : (from Oct 25 email to me)

"sorry for the delay, and will do the return of the money.

exuce me again, really difficult to get the mx-900 and also difficult to install the software from long long away." (Shanghai - China and I am in Hong Kong)

It is now May 30 - 2013 and my money had never been returned and despite my repeated asking , Sentiment Hi-Fi just dared not to reply to me !

I have given up and it is only USD 499.00 that I lost - thanks to ADA - Sentiment told me that ADA must be paid before taking in his order so I must pay in full . What is exactly between - I don't know !

Unhappy & sad experience with ADA products !

IMHO, when a company representative that you've met does not respond to emails in a timely fashion, there are serious problems. mad.gif

I'll bet the negative publicity here didn't end up in his spam filter!

Perhaps ADA should consider doing business outside of the US directly. Seems like these foreign dealers aren't doing ADA any favors but rather destroying their reputation. Smaller companies than ADA do global business directly to customers so it can't be that difficult.

From what I am reading between the lines, ADA is as much part of the problem as its overseas dealers. It appears they have no problem taking people's cash first and worry about if/when to deliver later. This is somewhat symptomatic of poorly managed small outfits with cash flow problems.

Question: is this boutique line of audio components really that good?

Well I can't argue with that either. I have always liked ADA since 1994 when I discovered them. I never owned anything they made but I like the company from an engineering perspective. It could be the classic analogy "really good engineers make lousy business managers". Bob Carver comes to mind as well.

To have to deal with the aggrevation of writing a $50,000 check, be left hanging out to dry for half a year and finding out on an internet forum from another dealer that ADA aggregates 25 orders (>1mln US$!) before doing a production run of these machines, this better be some damn good piece of equipment!

All I can say is that ADA appears to be delivering. I know for a fact Richard caught a very bad bug while traveling overseas and he was really in bad shape for awhile, I had a problem with 8 amplifiers 1 year ago and richard went above and beyond the call of duty to fix the problem. ADA is a small company but they are of their word. You can't have general motors mass production and state of the ar execution t- mutually exclusive. I am glad things are working out.

I went to the ADA website the other day and noticed a few things.

1 - It has been a year since any news update or press releases
2 - The product line has been cut. Look at the options for keypads and amplifiers as an example.

What happened to the large product line? No more flagship 502 amps - no LCD keypads - etc..
The keypads I assume is due to people wanting more than ADA bus keypads and integrating ADA with crestron.
Is this a sign the company is not doing well?

The home automation "keypad" business has become highly diluted. And now with Ipads and Andriods, just about anyone can have an advanced remote for cost of a downloaded app. There is also a lot more competition in lighting controls and other non AV home automation, as well as distributed music and video systems. WiFi also makes DIY installation possible, no need to route cables through walls.

Perhaps ADA is refocusing on the products they do best. Nothing wrong with that in today's economy.

I placed my order with Richard six months ago and still no delivery of Cinema Ref Mach IV. Ever since I gave him my money in full six months ago he has been ignoring my emails. He tells me the same story as others that have tried to reach him via email. His excuse is that it went into his spam. Isn't interesting that before he got my money that my emails went into his inbox? Richard keeps moving delivery date every time we speak on the phone and would never give me a hard delivery date. Keep in mind he has had my money now for six months. He told me several times over the phone that he would send me an email to extend warranty from one year to three years for delays in delivery but three weeks later no emails from him. My countless emails have been unanswered. This is just bad way of doing business. I am frustrated and furious. Buyer beware.

I guess you need to look at buying these flagship pieces like a brand new porsche or Audi RS model, where delivery times can easily be 6 months+ for brand new models.....

Nevertheless thanks for sharing that information. I was considering some ADA products myself and was a bit worried about how to obtain service in the case of issues, etc. If one is not a big integrator or high-end installer, boutique companies seem to deprioritze service quite quickly. Other luxury products manufacturers manage that better I find (watches, cars, etc.)

I guess that makes it much more convincing for me (living in Europe) to buy high-end audio products from manufacturers on the same continent (i.e. for processors Datasat from the UK or a Trinnov from France), where it is relatively easier to get hold of the manufacturer if things go south.

Please try OPPO 103 with Vanity board and digit into Trinnov , I can assure you that you loose very little or even nothing compared with going through ADA Reference , maybe just one that 5.1 remain only 5.1 .

I have been enjoying this combo and I am more than happy with it !!

Waiting for delivery is no big problem if you finally get it . Problem being that we may loose both if your dealer closed down his business !

I am lucky just to loose USD 499.00 . I do not know whom to blame - ADA or my dealer - who took my payment in full and never answer any of my email !
