I think Jeff will disprove that when he fires up. In fact I know, he may have to add a decibel but he will hear plenty of activity lunged overhead overhead, at least in front row.

On these titles:
WWZ
Ironman 3
star trek 2013
oz great an powerful

Then so much for not seeing "any gains" with Atmos in a home theatre.

I explained the gains I heard at dolby. nothing wrong with experimenting with upconverters in the meantime, perhaps better than atmos nippon-ricochet-light.

Like i said i never say i told you so. However, i am not removed from saying "I stand corrected"

And i was corrected after i made this post. I was corrected by a studio, Dolby, and a major high end AVR/Speaker manufacture, and here is the details,

The official Dolby Atmos thread (home theater version)

And what i posted,

I, for one am going to have to "stand corrected" on the upward firing Atmos speakers that i have made countless jokes about. And here is why. I was in LA this weekend visiting the in laws and was invited to a private showing of planet of the apes. A name brand AVR/Speaker CE was there with there home Atmos set up. The room we viewed the movie in serves as both post and pre-release screenings. It has all the bells, whistles, you name it, this room has it. All the gear was in plain sight, laid out just like any HT end user would do it, there was four overheads, and the fronts and rears had the upward firing speakers. We were told that sometime during the movie, the switch from the over heads to the upward firing speakers would be made.

This switch, as we were later told, happened during a scene in the movie were it was extremely quite, around half way through the movie, and me, as well as 21 other people, never noticed it at all. This viewing room, however is around a $3 million dollar room, so it has what the rest of us, probably never will have, as it gets remodeled yearly it seems like. The first thing i noticed was the removal of the over head sound deadening material(duh) in the room, other than that it looked the same(except the wall paintings). For those who are asking, it was a DCI projector, Christie Digital, however it was a MKV file encoded with Dolby TrueHD sound, played from a laptop, same thing that will be planet of the apes when it shows up on BR disk. The sound was sent VIA HDMI to a Atmos consumer model AVR that will be available end of year(they said that) as will the speakers.

So i will say Dolby and --------- did a fine job on a joint effort to "get it right".

I really wish i had been allowed to take some pictures and video, but the answer to that was a big, fat "NO". And also since all the equipment i saw, was still in it's prototype condition i am not able to answer any who, what, or were's i can tell you when, Sunday.

I was told top electronics stores were going to have a similar mock up, Best Buy, Fry's electronics, etc. So i guess you can hear the same demo at one of them near you, this year.

Well 2L.no we're the first to the post with Auro encoded blu rays. And it looks like they may be first with Atmos. With this new release coming in October featuring both Atmos and Auro mixes. Pure Audio blu ray.

How about a Blu Ray movie?

Yes some movies will be good. And won't be long till some are released. But I have to say, after hearing the auromatic upmixer in action I am not too bothered about native content. It's worth the money just for the upmixer.

2 channel electronic music sounds sublime thru auro.

Won't be long folks!

I also wouldn't be so surprised if we see a lot more music discs being released in Auro and more movies in Atmos.

They should release a demo disc to include a segment from the oz great and powerful in auro, the section where it transitions from mono B&W to color auro.

We'll I know there is an auro demo disc coming. Be interesting to see what's on it. Likely to be the county side scenes, the town square in Amsterdam etc.

You're right, they should. I am very proud of that mix and especially that transition from mono to full blown surround!

Yes, but-most BD now have the DTS MA track, not both. There is a very good reason why the Dolby HD audio is rejected-hmm, could it be that it's better? This, should be a wake up call for those who want to run to Atmos. Plus, Auro has music already done in that format.

Not better when it comes to sound quality. DTS lossless is not "more" identical to the original than Dolby lossless. However, DTS is easier to author, which is why studios are using it.

Please see my post on the Datasat RS20i thread, but I have been running Auro for the last week and it's simply mind blowing.

I have never heard such an improvement in sonics from any other upgrade. Makes me even more excited to hear what the big version of Atmos and DTS offerings will sound like.

What are your cursory settings (for Auro)?

"One small step..."

Hopefully the studios will have some serious info about upcoming movie and music content in Atmos, Auro-3D, and DTS-UHD at IFA Berlin and CEDIA 2014 . . . plus realistic release dates for mass market priced Auro-3D, and DTS-UHD AVRs. It's all very well to have three competing|complementary immersive audio technologies, but what we want is end-to-end audio ecosystems delivering great--not just promised--3D sound!
