JBL Synthesis SDP-75

Hi All

I'm here at CEDIA, and we have great news: Trinnov has a new strategic global partnership between JBL Synthesis. The newly announced JBL Synthesis SDP-75 is based on the Altitude 32.

Key features of both systems include Trinnov's exclusive PC based architecture with all three 3D codecs fully implemented- Atmos/24.1.10, Auro/13.1 , and DTS:X/7.1.4 (initial implementation).

Key differences between the two processors:

Trinnov Altitude32 exclusively retains the Trinnov Optimizer and 3D remapping technologies

JBL Synthesis SDP-75 processor is partnered with JBL's highly regarded ARCOS/SDEC room tuning platform.

If you come to CEDIA, I believe you will enjoy the Harman demo. All 3 formats - Atmos, Auro, and DTS:X are being demonstrated over a 13.4.11 3D room layout of my design and spatial tuning. The system incorporates JBL's SDECs with ARCOS room tuning. If you make it to the demo, my perfered seating is second row. There is typical theater seating, tall seat backs. Make a point to sit tall to get the full 3d image. The Harman demo is by reserved seating up to 4 pm daily, with open seating from 4-6pm.

If you are at CEDIA, it would be my pleasure to meet. You'll find me between the You can get my personal contact info off the Trinnov website.

I'll provide more details in the coming weeks.

Cheers,
mtbdudex and Reddig like this.

I just posted a short piece about the SDP-75 on the AVS Forum homepage, and I am sending readers here for comments.

"If your taste in sound systems tilts toward the top of the line, JBL now offers the Synthesis SDP-75, a pre/pro that's based on the Trinnov Altitude. It'll be available in 16 and 32-channel versions, and JBL is using a 32-channel model for its home theater demos here at CEDIA.

The SDP-75 is exclusively for JBL Synthesis systems, and it deals with room correction a bit differently from its Altitude siblings. Namely, the Altitude retains Trinnov Optimizer and 3D remapping technologies, while the JBL Synthesis version features its own DSP solution. While the final pricing of the SDP-75 has yet to be set—it's set to ship this spring—JBL says it will be very close the equivalent Trinnov Altitude model, give or take a grand.

JBL is running a 13.4.11-channel system at the show, with the SDP-75 in charge of the processing. The demo room uses 28 of the SDP-75's 32 channels to create a superior sense of audio envelopment. With that many speakers in the system, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Auro 3D are sure to deliver a superb surround sound experience. In about an hour after I post this, I will experience the SDP-75 in JBL's immersive audio demo, and I will update this post with photos and video of the room this evening."

So JBL has joined the ranks of the hyperexpensive (although I'm sure it will be great) pre/pro that does many channels - 32. And on the opposite end is everything else stuck at 11.2. Where is the middle guy that does 9.2.4 or 9.2.6? Come on Marantz.... don't let me down. My fingers are crosseed that you'll announce something....

Still, is there any hope that the 16 channel JBL is significantly cheaper than the 32 channel? Maybe, just maybe. Hope springs eternal.....

Will the unit handle active crossovers internally in this unit or will they still rely on outboard DSP?

From my meetings today, my understanding is the 16 channel version will be approx 25k msrp and the 32 channel in the mid 30s.

There are also some additional Jbl only features being implemented like the Blu-link to allow for the seamless single wire digital connection to the sdec equalization, just like the rest of the new synthesis gear. No more analog interconnects unless you really want

Will the Blu-link input be available as an input card + firmware update for existing SDEC-4500P owners?

Hi Curt,

I have a couple of questions:

1) Why the limit on the number of channels on DTS:X? When do you expect this limitation to be removed, and what is the target supported channels for DTS:X on the Altitude?

2) What happens if I have a Trinnov implementation with more channels, does that preclude me from using DTS:X?

Thx
Bryan

Unless I'm misunderstanding, all SDEC have those digital links including the 4500P already. That's how they have always linked together for expansion since I can remember. The new Synthesis amps also have them now. The new Trinnov/Jbl processor will have a blu-link out which will connect to any sdec. It's the Trinnov that is having it added for the JBL version. The equalizer a already all have it and have for many years.

Should be exciting to check this out in Dallas this weekend!

I never thought Trinnov and JBL would be blended into a product. I wonder if Trinnov is some sort of acquisition target for Harman Kardon. Perhaps this is just a collaboration. HK has been kinda slow on processors since the Lexicon days...

I wonder what ARCOS adds to the Trinnov processing that sounds damn good by itself.

I have a HK system in Jeep Grand Cherokee and it is very decent for a factory implemented system. Hopefully the Harmon Kardon brands can pick up steam again. I did hear that new stuff from Mark Levinson was on its way.

Blazar!

Thanks, quite right. Maximum for Atmos is 34 possible locations. One is free to pick for the 32 outputs the channels that best suit the intentions for the room. It maybe as you suggest, 21.1.10. Or 24.2.6, etc. The choice is yours, depending on your particulars.

In the case of the JBL demo room at CEDIA, a 13.4.11speaker layout is working very nicely.

Cheers,

Nice to see this, for those with huge rooms, 3 rows+, etc, this is the ticket.
I'm hoping trickle down to $5k AVR's also for those with 2 row HT.

You and me, plus a lot of others...I still holding out fall 2016 for this

as my plan is this for 2016/2017, such high-end AVR's would cover many-many HT's here at AVS as well......

Cheers,
So, if I understand, with the JBL, you get the SDECs / ARCOS. Must you have JBL equipment to use such if you're willing to forego the Altitude's remapping and Optimizer?

Thanks!@

Right now I see a Good (what's in current AVR's) and Best (what's in true high end gear like this), but no Better.

So is this further evidence that the Lexicon brand is dead and buried? Until recently JBL's were based on Lexicon processors now the last two JBL's have been based off of this and a Bryston.

Shame cause nothing can still out do Logic7
