Besides getting more than a few requests to start a new Owner's thread which will focus mainly on just the 5000ES alone it just seems like there is more and more banter in the other thread. And yes I am guilty of some but I promise to stay on point in this one. This thread of course is open to everyone but as we add more owners this will be an easier point of reference for them to go to. We will update it frequently with settings and firmware info. We can also add measurements both start up and every 500 to 1000 (approximately) which will also benefit prospective owners. And we can add links to Reviews. I plan to update this first post with firmware info as we go...
Without further ado...

Sony VPL-VW5000ES Video:
The following procedure from Mayer (big thank you to him) who is definitely a pioneer when it comes to Sony projectors and other brands will definitely help until we get the HDR slider firmware. This might be considered an "Advanced" owner's thread move just make sure you are careful. Whenever I go into any service menu I always take pics with my phone just in case. Here is his post:
As many people that use a Sony VW5000 complain especially those that have a large screen over 5 meter that UHD HDR Material looks too dark here is the solution for all that not like to wait till Sony will have their promised HDR Slider with a new Software till end of this year for the VW5000.
The following procedure allows to increase overall brightness with UHD HDR material.
The trade of is that you reduce the HDR when you doing it.
Most UHD Disc are mastered for 1000 nit but many of them are have only few sequence’s that have 1000nit on.
So the tradeoff is not so big as 99% of the movie is just show a much brighter picture.
As the trues is that with today’s pr
. technology HDR is “almost” impossible this can be a nice solution as you can select how much brightness you like to see any how much HDR you like to see depends on your taste and your screen size.
For those with small screens may 500nit is a good clipping point for those with screen like my one 7 meter 300nit is may a good number.
Please note that going into the service menu is under your risk.
-go into the service menu by hit “Enter,Enter, left Enter”
-go full down to “Device” one step more down from information
-under “W/B” you found the RGB Gain.
-make sure you select custom3 (its D65 from factory)
-go inside custom3
-adjust RGB to a higher level (factory was 128)
-try 200 for each color or max. that is 255
The more you increase the less HDR you see as picture clips sooner but the more brightness you will see.
Use the Sony UHD Disc with the nit Test pattern to see when you clip see also 2 pictures i add now with the cliping at 300 nit.
-when you found the right number don’t forget to use “Safe to memory” before you leave the service menu.
Report how you like it.
