Yesterday at the Mix Magazine /Sony Pictures "Mix Sound For Film " event I had a private demo of the New Meyer Bluehorn speakers.
They are the Finest Speaker I have EVER HEARD! They are nothing short of AMAZING!!
The speakers actually brought me to tears!

Here is a picture of me standing with them.

Here is a link to the Meyer site :

They are designed for Music Scoring/ Music Mixing and High End Home Theaters.

I'll copy here what I posted in the JBL M2 thread here on the AVS Forum about the new Bluehorn System:

Quote:
Meyer Sound has finally officially unveiled the Bluehorn System. The Bluehorn System consists of an Acheron Designer with a modified compression driver that goes up to 22 kHz sitting on top of an X-400C subwoofer that goes down to 20 Hz. "It is a three way system using new control electronics with perfectly flat phase correction all the way down to 20 Hz. The system uses Galileo/Galaxy controllers with custom firmware, and all Galileo units allow multiple snapshots allow optimum settings for music and film." (Quote is from Meyer Sound when I was talking to them over email.) The Bluehorn System requires mandatory setup by Meyer Sound engineers. This system was used on the scoring stage for the movie The BFG.

More info: https://meyersound.com/product/bluehorn-system/

By the way, we finally got our first local Dolby Cinema here in Dubai. It is the first one in the Middle East. It uses a full Meyer Sound speaker setup and I have to say sounds FREAKING AMAZING. I've watched two movies there, War for the Planet of the Apes and It, and was blown away by the sound each time. There is a certain smoothness to the sound and is not harsh at all. Dynamics were off the chart and the whole sound stage/field is so cohesive. I prefer this Dolby Cinema by a large margin over the new IMAX with Laser (with the new 12-channel sound system) that we also recently got here.
When I was talking to Meyer Sound several months ago, they told me about the upcoming/new Bluehorn System. At that time, they told me that the preliminary pricing for an LCR set is *removed* but that does not cover the mandatory setup by Meyer Sound engineers nor optional things like grilles, RMS remote monitoring system, etc.

This is an especially timely post from Dr. Sound, as I'm having a set of three Bluehorns installed next week as front L-C-R speakers in a 16 speaker Atmos home theater build.

All 16 are from Meyer and I'm told this will be the first Bluehorn residential install nationally (guess that makes me the guinea pig...gulp).

Will let you know my thoughts and send along pictures when I can.

MMiles: Bluehorns going behind an acoustically-transparent screen, so will save the cost of spray paint purchase...

Thanks,

Impressive.

What are you using for the surround speakers? The HMS-5?

Lastly, what is the size of your room and what will the setup be in terms of x.x.x?

By the way, those "worried" about the look of the blue horn on the speaker can get speaker grilles that cover everything up.

Wow, that sounds like an unreal set-up. If you are a Browns fan and therefore in Ohio (I am in Cincinnati) let me know if you need any help auditioning the system once installed

Though my system resides several pay grades below your system, I am use to pro audio set-ups as I have an all JBL Pro/JTR Atmos system. I can provide a free comparison in performance.

Nice.

However, if I am not mistaken, the Bluehorn System has each LCR speaker sitting on top of an X-400C. Would that make the total number of X-400C subwoofers four in your setup? Also, the X-400C subwoofers that are under each LCR speaker are not used for LFE, but to extend the bass response of each Bluehorn speaker. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Kain:

Correct on all accounts--the Bluehorns do indeed have incorporated subs (uncertain if they are X-800s or X-400s?), and I was told their primary purpose is to extend bass response on the three mains. Regardless, AHT Global and Meyer seem confident the room will provide authoritative bass performance.

Are there any more technical details / specifications available on the web anywhere? The Meyersound website is sparse on details...

Thanks for your kind offer--I continue to follow the Browns (made easier by the Cavaliers and Indians recently...) despite relocating to a Philadelphia suburb (Lower Gwynedd) a number of years ago.

If you ever get up my way of course you are welcome to drop by and check things out.

Just make sure you bring along some of that Cincinnati chili, OK?

Unherdable:

You're correct that there is very little information out there at present--I'm told the Bluehorns are in process of being introduced at events like the one Dr. Sound attended at top of this thread. We should be seeing more information in the approaching weeks I would think.

I was persuaded by fact that the Meyer products, and Acheron in particular, seem to generally be very well regarded in the enthusiast and pro sound community. Their appearance is, well, functional, shall we say? My installation is stealthy and will have all speakers hidden behind screen or wall fabric throughout the room as a result.

In PHL even better I'm in southern Delaware.

I will refrain from wearing any Steelers apparel at the grand opening.

As far as baseball I'm an Orioles fan. Classic example for the value of pitching. It doesn't matter if you score 5 runs when the other team gets 6...

Thanks very much for the encouraging review Dr. Sound.

Given your profession, your ear is much more refined than my own. If the Bluehorns meet with your approval I'm sure I will be thrilled.

I will be certain to tell the Meyer guys you said hello...

How does this compare cost wise to a JBL Synthesis/M2 system?

Nice!

Goodbye to a great audio and video genius and writer... JOHN GANNON. I enjoyed your friendship, wit and a nice long run we took around Indianapolis at CEDIA years back... and for buying my Runco 980 Ultra years back... you saved my ass! Rest in peace.

Don't know about the JBL/M2 pricing, but for my speaker package before taxes, just north of $150,000.

Wife should start talking to me again in roughly three years?

3 years??? So a bonus?! !

Got it. I assume (or not) that includes amplifiers?? You using an Altitude?

Thanks for the info.

All speakers in system are powered, so yes pricing includes power.

System at present does not include Altitude, but I am intrigued by this product and plan to learn more from the many knowledgeable folks on this forum.

brownsguy,

Quick question for you...

Have you heard/listened to Meyer Sound speakers before? What made you go with Meyer Sound? Is it the fact that they are very well received?

The Bluehorns are (...tantalizingly) in boxes in the theater room, awaiting AHT Global to place and wire them later this week, and for the Meyer person/people to fly out and calibrate them in early November. Will let you know my impressions after the install is complete.
