Well, maybe but the demo was really about showing the difference between a B&W speaker and a Wilson Sophia - no contest at all, ipod or not. The demo was to prove how important the speaker is in a whole system (in Dave Wilson's opinion).

Jeffmac, is your Theta/Transport capable of SACD?

If so, let's start pulling together the 2 to 3 CDs and selected tracks to do the DAC comparison.
I vote for Diana Krall as one SACD...

Sorry, it is not.

Since each person knows their system best maybe each of us should pick one cd.

Sounds like an excellent plan... let us choose a CD that we feel best shows off the DAC, and then we'll play each others CD on all the DACs.

Comments from the rest of our illustrious council?

Will this be a "blind" listening session or will everyone know what they are listening to?

no double blind testing, men behind the curtain, etc... that will require too much cable swapping and walking around the room etc... this is an informal test. We aren't going to publish results or draw stern conclusions or buy/sell advice. I suppose each participant will post his impressions, and that's all they will be: impressions/perceptions.

Dean, just down the 85 south... won't take but a few minutes. If you wanted you could also arrange to demo your CQC effort, if that is appropriate. Schedule is getting pretty full though...
It's not something that could be done in a rush, so probably best to leave it for later. I could answer any questions of course.

O.T. If my theory is correct I would say Tzucc is not from here (northern California)
I've noticed that people that are from here do no put the word "the" in front of freeway numbers. We just say "take 85 south" or "take 101 north". People from So Cal say "Take the 101 north"
Just a silly little observation.

I remember one demo I saw a long time ago. They had these huge speakers out on the floor playing music. Everyone was so impressed. When the music stopped the curtins in the back were pulled open to reveal a small Phillips speaker. We were all caught! I must admit if we had seen the tiny speaker before our opinions might have been different. Phillips actually had a hard time selling this product because of it's size.
Long live the Objectivists!

The worst Highway in the world to me is the 401 midday ANYDAY! And i lived in LA for 8 years (up to 4 months ago)

For those of you from the Unexplored Southern Area (USA) the 401 is the highway that is the main artery across the middle of the spine of Toronto (a little village of 5.5 million souls)

I actually saw the same demo using a small Bose speaker hidden behind a large blank speaker.

Bose still sells these little satellites

Being an ex Canuck from Toronto I would agree with Dizz' comments. The 401 is terible and besides the signs are bilingual

Gentlemen--to all BAAS members attending Tzucc's event next week, it had been my hope and anticipation that on Saturday June 4th we would all convene at my house for evaluation of my new ARC 610T's. Well I still have yet to take delivery after waiting 9 weeks. Apparently they will ship sometime this week but am uncertain if I will have them before the event and even if I did I would want to have at least 100 hours on the tubes before any critical listening. ARC gear is famous for being spectacular out of the box but then muddies up until at least 100 hours of tube life.

Philip O'Hanlon is however coming up and will be staying at my house. He will be delivering the new Halcro pre/pro to Music Lovers that weekend. He is hopefully bringing the Meitner Switchman 3 with the Phantom Center. He wants everyone to hear that and compare it to Tzucc's X-1 mains and WP 7 center. Philip feels very confidant that the Phantom Center will sound better only because it will give the perception of a 3rd X-1 at the center channel.

If so, I'll be very interested to hear everyone's impressions. I tried this with WP7s vs. Cub center and preferred the phantom WP7 center (now have Maxx IIs with the WP7s as rears). I liked it enough that I ordered the SWM3 w/ phantom center to use with home theater and MC audio (also ordered the CDSD and DAC6) -- this was 5 months ago and I am still waiting. :(

Glade--I told you that I could have gotten you Meitner gear. Why didn't you ask me?

I will talk to Phillip about it this weekend. I do know that Ed is working on many different projects and upgrades at the present time

Tzucc, starting so early could make it difficult for Mike Poindexter to get here on time. I am sure he has at least a 3-4 hour drive.

I am willing to start whenever... I am cognizant that we have both an audio and video agenda... want to make sure we give each their due diligence. I think we should start listening or watching by no later than 2pm... so that means setup should start at least a couple of hours earlier.

Setup is quick BUT we must be certain that we have additional cables so that we don't run short.

It is about 3 1/2 hours for me to get to Tzucc's, I think. If I have to get up early to make it up there, so be it. Just let me know how early I can be there and I will be there. The Kaleidescape won't take too long to set up - perhaps 10 minutes, but I will need some help taking it down the stairs. I have it in a shock rack and that extra protection comes at a price and that price is weight. I may bring a dolly and a strap to make it easier to move around, though.

The Odyssee may take a little while longer to set up - depending on Tony's seats - perhaps an hour or so to set up those for a quick demo.
