Fooled you.

But ONEOBGYN is now retired from his medical practice, but looking for a new video projector.

I suggested a Blendzilla setup from Tim Martin here in Scottsdale, two 9" CRTs blended on a 12' wide screen.

http://www.etechvideo.com/

But OB is considering a Sony Ruby.

Gee, if OB downsized his two channel audio setup, from that alone he could afford the best video available.

Or if he downsized his car.

Getting rid of his audio tweaks - NAH! That won't help. They didn't cost that much.

Folks, what should OB do. What projector should he get?

He should tell us what his screen situation is like, if there is ambient light, whether he likes a bright screen, if he is bothered by rainbows, etc etc etc.

There are a lot of great options.

for the price, i think the edge would be with the sony ruby.... i don't think there is any better at that price and a bit beyond.

I would seriously be looking into the new JVC at this point over a ruby.

Anything will be better than the DP 1200 that he has..

475 lumens, 1987 technology.

Seriously Ob, if video is as important as audio is to you, Tim's route is the only way to go. Even if it isn't, the return on investment will be greater than any digital set. The system will look better and last a lot longer.

So he says.

So he needs our help to get value for his video dollars - so he can spend $$ instead on those fast cars.

I wouldn't buy anything right now... if I had to, a optimized Ruby is still the best choice and that includes the JVC/Meridian and the new JVC. Haven't seen the new JVC optimized yet though (only calibrated). Can't wait for my dealer to get this so I can have a look inside.

Sony will have a new SXRD out late this year, which will be on the top again. So if time allows, I'd just wait.

I'd also put the Sim2 3-chip on the list. Didn't get my hands on one yet, but it looks promising. 1-chip is a big no-no. Personally, I wouldn't go back to CRT again. I've been a CRT user for many years and except for absolute black level, there's nothing to miss.

He's always welcome to help us less fortunate move up to the projection world, and I would in no way decline a sizeable contribution so that I may do so

Hello

I was involved some in helping to install seven big Digital Projection 8000 lumen triple DLPs here at ASU in a large wraparound theater array. Around $70K each. The cabinet is the size of an engine block and well over 200 lbs each. They are made by NEC actually, 1400 x 1050, the lamp assemblies are the size of toasters and run $5000 each. 240 volts only. Fluid cooled DLP chips with pumps and a radiator. One unit had problems early on, DPI was unable to fix it here, it has sat in Tokyo for One Year still not repaired or replaced. The school is contemplating upgrades to newer machines already, and my guess is that these existing machines are almost worthless......

Just returned from San Francisco for the day. Man, turn your back and Bruzonsky has posted another thread, this one about me

To Dizzman, after 34 years in private practice and some 10,000 babies later I am in the process of winding down. As you know I opened a medspa in downtown Danville and look to this as a different methood of income. So Dizz, as Morbius asked, are you thinking of doing it again so soon?

To Curt Palme I respect your opinion but I am not going the CRT route. Ruby is a strong candidate but as posted Sony will have another one later this year so I might just sit in the wings and wait.

To Chris Wiggles, a screen size change will take place as well as an appropriate screen for the projector

To Bruzonsky, the audio gear stays. I remain at eternal bliss with my audio end right now. The car was an act of folie at a moment of weakness but, man is it fun to drive.

I value all of your opinions. I had suggested to Art that I might make a trip to Toronto later this year with a side step to Michigan to visit him and Jeff to see some serious video.

I would be glad to help you with the design of the video side of things.

And honestly, we will be using your "new" revenue source and not even thinking of the old revenue source.

HA HA.

But this is a nice thread about you.

On audio, you are as well versed as anyone. But on video, I figured folks could give you some polite help.

You'll have a nice video projector and setup when you get done with us for a reasonable cost. HA!
