@Germain:

LAV Dboite 0.43 does not work properly. Things are going wrong with True-HD tracks. I know that I saw some release notes in 0.42 or 0.43 where the author mentioned something like 'better handling of True_HD audio'. He might have changed something which causes your alterings not working anymore. If you could track this down and fix this it would be great. Also 0.44 is already released last week:

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=156191

Also MPC-HC got quite some updates and bugfixes since your latest version. 1.5.3.3948 is the latest version atm:

http://www.xvidvideo.ru/media-player...inema-x86-x64/

And then there s another thing. With LAV 0.40 (I use this atm because 0.43 is not working well) 'Scream 4' is not working. Tried it with both the checkboxes 'duplicate primary' and 'force secondary audio stream' but no luck. Do you have that title maybe to test?

And last question: could you maybe provide the source of Germains LAV and MPC-HC? It will be too hard for me to work with because I m a PCnoob but maybe I can find someone on the doom9s forum to help out. I ask this because I know you told me you are very busy and I don t want to nag with you all the time when new LAV and MPC-HC versions are released. LAV is stil in development and fixes are released often so new releases of LAV Dboite are wanted whenever new original LAV versions are released.

Thanks Germain!!

Can anyone comment on whether my platform is being inserted correctly. I'd like for it the platform to be as hidden as possible. And then let people find out that the seats move after the movie starts.

Ok. For kicks I went back through my emails to try to figure out what model I bought. I found out it was sold as the Odyssee XL. Capable of moving 2600 lbs up to 1.5" at 2gs of force. I still haven't heard back from Dbox to confirm what I actually own. But I'm guessing the info was correct when I bought it.

Either case, I don't think I'll exceed even the 1600 lb limit.
Turns out I bought this back in late 2006. Man, it takes great will power to have such a cool toy sitting on a shelf for that long.

Hi Mario, What are your actuator dimensions?

According to Thxman,

XL specs:
Dimensions: 19" L x 3" H x 6" W
Weight: 15 lbs (each)

Non XL specs:
Dimensions: 18" L x 3" H x 6" W
Weight: 13 lbs (each)

I looked back to many of the old D-Box web sites and everything seems to point to that being an XL model. I think you are in good hands. Also, I love your theater, can't wait to see pics after it is done. Great job.

I have an Odyssee XL - one of the first ones they shipped.

First off, the weight capacity is 2400lbs, not 2600lbs but at the risk of sounding like Bill Gates 20 years ago, 2400lbs is plenty of capacity. The non-XL version was 1600 lbs of weight capacity.

The displacement is only 7/8", however. The non-XL Odyssee that was originally sold was 5/8" so the XL was a 40% increase in throw distance and a 50% increase in weight capacity.

I still use my XL and enjoy it although it doesn't have the amount pitch and roll of the vertical actuators - partly because of the difference in displacement and partly because my system is on 40/80" centers for the platform and the vertical systems I have are placed much closer together. The roll is where I really notice it (tilt side to side) because the front to back distance is only slightly closer on my twin seats but the side to side distance between actuators is much closer.

For the vibration effects, I actually prefer the Odyssee XL since I don't have to recline and the soles of my feet can feel the vibration. I have to recline on my vertical systems for my feet to get decoupled from the floor but even then, I don't notice the vibration the same way - think of the ability to sense on your finger tips vs sensing with the back of your hand. It is kind of like that on the vibration effects with your feet. If I ever build another home theater, I will probably put vertical actuators inside a platform to get the best of both worlds.

I've had my DBox system for many years, but it's sat on shelf while I finish up my home theater. It's getting close so I'm excited to start diving into this thread.

I'm getting close to the determing how close to place the aluminum platform (112" x 46") to the surrounding fixed platform and am trying to match the carpet height so they are the same when the DBOX is powered off. I'm using a roughly 1/4" thick commercial carpet. So I was thinking of leaving 3/4" space around the motion platform. That will leave a little less than a 1/4" after bending the carpet on both sides (Motion Platform and Fixed Surround Platform). For those of you already down this road, does this seem correct?

I've included a diagram.

For my system, I folded the carpet into the countersunk area where the platform will be, but the carpet on the platform I just had them sew a border around it like a rug and velcro it down. That allows me to take the carpet up, unscrew the top of the platform and get access to the actuators. Trust me, you will be cursing when you try to get your platform put in if you build it like you are doing.

You can look back in my construction thread and I have photos of how I put the riser in. I used to sell a lot of D-BOX systems back when I was more involved in home theater and less involved in the walnut business. The only way I would ever run the carpet around the top of the platform and wrap around to the bottom is if it was a free standing platform and not countersunk into a riser so that it was flush with the floor level.

There were 2 different sizes of housings on the XL series actuators. You have the first one. Later, they moved a lot of the electronics into the APM and had a much smaller housing attached to the "hockey puck" part of the actuator. The SRP-530 had the smaller housing and I think they changed the housing size before they changed the name. I thought it was funny that I owned and Odyssee XL, an Odyssee 4600p and an SRP-530 without ever changing my equipment. They changed the model number almost as often as Kim Kardashian changed men in her life.

Oh, by the way, do NOT put carpet pad on the riser. You will be absorbing the motion effects.

Make the platform with the portion over the actuators seperate from the rest of the top. That way, you can screw them down seperately. Put the platform in and leave the top over the actuators off. Then, you can align the platform perfectly, shim them up to be the perfect height so that the flooring is perfectly flush when the system is powered on and in the rest position, then lock down the actuators so that they won't drive over time and put the platform top over the actuator portions of the platform and attach the carpet.

By the way, with the carpet not being curved around like you are wanting to do but just put on top of the riser and a seam with it, you will find that it will blend in more than it would if you had a visible gap. You would also be less likely to find trash getting in there and it isn't as tempting for kids or full grown idiots to stick their fingers in.

Hi,

are you storing your controller on the platform, so the vibrations kill your hard drives that often???

On which continent are you located? North America, South America, Australia, Europe, Africa, Asia?

If you were located in Europe, I wouldn't mind helping you out. I would, however, need your name and your controller serial (via PM!), so I can check your motion code subscription status with D-Box.

Alternatively, I could sell you a used, but working 340c with the most recent code updates (my lifetime subscription covers all my controllers). Once sold, however, you would have to either transfer your existing subscription to the "new" controller or purchase a new subscription from D-Box to continue receiving code updates with this controller. If interested, PM me.

Cheers!

Markus

Hmm... So, excluding the ones I will never watch, my average is more like $5.10 per movie. It's worth it, I guess. Though there are some on that "might watch" that I will never actually watch. I just don't know which ones they are yet.

I'm a cheap skate with a lot of expensive toys... but I wonder if I would pay $5 for the motion code for most of those titles above.

Probably not.

Hmm.... best not to think of it.

I know it wouldn't make the list pretty, but also don't forget that we get a lot of re-codes each year too.

Yep, I had to remove all of those. I did not add them because D-Box advertises those as "No charge."

Just as a reminder for anyone who may have forgotten, I actually got them to release the codes for the French BD release of The Brotherhood of the Wolf last year. I'm not sure when the US version will come out, it's been advertised on D-Box's site for some time but I haven't heard about any street dates.

Hello gentlemen,

Just a quick question if you could help me. I've been combing through this thread and most of it is related to movies.

I have a D-box with a gaming motion controller and was wondering if there is a forum for D-box gaming enthusiasts. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I love the what the D-box adds to my driving sims, I can't play without it. I was wondering if there is somewhere to petition to get more titles supported. Been a long time since some regular releases.

Thanks.

I have not seen a dedicated thread, but I know there are members here using D-Box for gaming and some even have the dedicated setup for it. Maybe you should start one.

I say start a new thread. I wouldn't have much to say about it, but I'd enjoy reading it.

You'll just get lost in this thread.

OK thanks, I have a pretty dedicated D-box simulator with triple 46" screens, Force feedback controls, hydraulic pedals, and dual sequential and H pattern shifters.

Just want to get Race and Flight sim guys to support a petition to get more games. We're neglected even though games are bigger than movies now.

Don't have D-BOX... yet, but I agree with you about the need for game support.

The newest light simulator has been announced, and there are tons of great driving sims out that are not supported. What's the deal D-BOX? i say start a new thread!

I want support for non sim games too. FPS, sure... but games like Just Cause, Red Faction, Rage, Half Life, etc... have a lot of driving, flying in them, even though they're not sims.

Yeah I agree. I've been in contact with D-box and they've been nice. But I just don't get the feeling that gaming is a priority to them which I think is kind of crazy as the device is pretty much a home run with any game I've used with it. Kinda makes me sad that its potential is not being tapped.

Trying to figure out where to place a new thread where it won't disappear into the void.

I think the best place would be PC Gaming here:http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=145
Due to the cost, the 20K forum should work too.

Thanks! I'll invade your thread from time to time.

But I'd like official D-box reps to chime in, they're here right?

Sorry, no. They read the boards, but don't post anymore. They do post on their facebook page.
