I thought it'd be interesting to consider folks attitudes here at this forum statistically with their spending habits. And to correlate who even responds as well.

Dish 6000 HD receiver- $600 at retail. Damn!
HDFury- Free
Lumagen HDP- free (won it at Cliff's HT meet)
Denon 3801- $500- traded for a projector
Inter M 4 channel power amps X 2- $800 total
EAW 12" 2 way X 3 (LCR)- free except for labor to deinstall, about $500
Tannoy 12.3 subwoofer- $400 at an auction- dealer demo unit
Mordaunt Short rears- $400/pr
MArquee 9500 LC projector- $2000-ish or so.

Bought all new, but took advantage of the trade in/upgrade system my dealer has. I would say I got an average of 15% off new equipment.

Actually, I have two systems, an analog audio system and a HT system.
The audio system came in at over $20K despite buying a number of used components.
The HT system came in at just around 20k, again a number of componets were used.
