I wanted to pop back on this thread since it's finally back to my topic; at least somewhat.
It really was not my intention to have the thread title come off "quite provacative."
I really hadn't been a member very long at the time and I had no idea this thread would cause a stir. Although for the most part it has been very good.
I researched many speakers in general a lot before picking the Sierra's. I've probably read the professional reviews 20 times each. I've searched this forum and others to read what is most likely more than 1,000 posts regarding the Sierra's. EVERY review, get-together, and owner has basically had little to nothing bad to say about the Sierra's. I thought they were a no brainer purchase, and as such I had very high expectations.
When I first listened to them, I found many things the bothered me (most outlined in my original post). I really thought I wanted that "neutral" sound everyone was raving about. I didn't hear it. When I posted this thread, I was thinking something was wrong with me. I just didn't understand why I felt so different than so many others.
I've come a long way since that first post. David Fabrikant's advise (as well as others) to just give the speakers some good listening time was fantastic. I know I hear music differently now. I've learned to be much more objective and I think I've learned a lot. Since I love music so much, these last few weeks have been great.
One of best things that has happened is all of the PM's and emails I shared with David Fabrikant (incredible guy), Mark Schiftler, Jim Salk, craigsub, and a few others (they know who they are
). Everyone has been extremely helpful and the three competitors listed are absolutely nothing but respectful of each other. They are all really great guys, but I've worked the most with David and this guy is just unbelievable. Just the time he alone has taken to work with me is unprecedented. He's one of the best!
One thing I'm still learning, but I think I'm getting a good grip on, is what *I* want from my speakers. I've heard it, but it's not all coming from one speaker. Big surprise huh? What a revelation?
I really can't put my final thoughts on the Sierra's because I have a lot going on. I've been listening to a couple of other speakers and I'm figuring out what it is I'm wanting. I won't be getting a very important pair of speakers until next week Thursday. I'll be able to finalize everything then. I'm sorry if this is a tease, but it's just how it has to be.
Thus far I'll throw out a "thank you" to everyone that has made an effort to help me either on this thread, PM's, or email. It really is appreciated and I'm really happy I decided to be a member of this forum. Having access to these manufacturers, professionals, and knowledgeable forum members is just priceless.
There is just so much opportunity and knowledge here.
I really hope in the end that this thread is not looked upon as BS and worthless; it certainly hasn't been for me and maybe that's all that matters. Some of these posts certainly aren't helping.
I'm off to listen to some music...
