Hey now,
I am very green in the world of AVS and wanted to see what some think would be the next logical upgrade in my quest for HT glory.

My current setup
Display: Samsung HLR4266W
Reciever: Sony STR-DE895
Speakers: Bose Acoustimass 10
DVD/Blu-Ray: PS3

As you can tell from my setup it consist of some older equipment and I know the Bose speakers are not well liked around here , but my question is what should I upgrade first? I am not really unhappy with anything so it's tough to decide which comes first. If I had to pick I would say speakers which is why I posted it here first. I don't really have a budget in mind, but would like to do something in the next year.

So if you had my setup would the speakers be the first thing you would upgrade? Thanks for your time.

I'd definitely give the speakers a go first. Not much room for improvement with the PS3, that's a pretty nice TV, and that Sony AVR will get the job done, too, though at some point you might want to bump up to an HDMI receiver. But the speakers.... I'm a former Bose owner myself. I didn't have to spend much to find out what I was missing.

First thing, though, you need to arrive at a budget. And, you have to ask yourself if this is something you really want to spend money on. You say you're not unhappy, yet here you are looking for new speaker recomendations

One thing to try; look at the online-only speaker dealers that have 30-day trial periods. Aperion Audio is one example (http://www.aperionaudio.com). Try out a set of their speakers with all your current gear. It shouldn't take too much time/effort to find out if it would be worth it or not.

It all really depends on what your budget is. If you don't have enough of a budget, it might not be worth spending the little extra money on another entry level system. Now, if your budget is in $1,500ish, it's worth a look.

If it is ME: Speaker will be the first thing I upgrade. Subwoofer is next. Receiver is last. If budget is tight, I would slowly build up by going with 2.1 first and add from there. Might even use the bose to test how it sounds as surrounds or sell my current system and the new money to my budget.

I have spent some time on the Aperion Audio website and like the fact that I can try before I buy. The speakers seem good for someone like myself on a limited budget.

As for not being unhappy I sometimes wonder if that is the case because I don't know any better. The Bose sound good to me, but as someone pointed out I might realize what I am missing if I were to upgrade. Thank you for all your help.

Don't forget to dig around this forum some more, there are several online speaker companies that offer some really nice products, and have some form of a trial period. Here are some other options:

http://**********/
http://www.axiomaudio.com/
