I can't tell you first hand but from my research I believe performance wise, the SB and PC are about the same.
They do seem to get measured similarly. The one thing to note is that the SB will start to roll off earlier but the PB will roll-off more abruptly. However, we are talking in the 15hz range so probably not a big concern either way.

Was wondering if any other Mythos ST owners are getting any type of 'electronic feedback' from the woofer portion of the speakers? I noticed recently my left ST is getting funky electronic feedback when I plug in the power for the sub and especially when I turn the woofer level up. I've tried swapping the power cords and still get the same result.
Let me know what this might be...thanks!

^^^ Switch out the left and right to make sure it is in the speaker. If so call customer service have them walk you through it. It may be a loose internal connection.

The Mythos Eight. I have it as the center in my system with Mythos Fours for fronts, and Twos for rears. The Eight is the best speaker of them all...well except for the dual SB2000's. I really wish I could find Mythos Ones to match the Eight, but the Fours are adequate. I really wish I would've gone with Eights all around with the two subs.

Sorry for the really late reply...I'm sure you've found your solution by now. Please update your solution.

I reconstructed the wall and shifted my TV above the fireplace and now the Mythos ones fits nicely so won't need to hang the fronts anymore.

FYIW I have Mythos 8 as the center and no doubt they sound great for their size.

So I recently got a pair of Mythos Gems and Mythos Gem Xl's (I know, I'm behind the times) I was wondering what center speaker would match with those speakers. I was looking at the Mythos Seven or the Procenter 1000 or 2000

I would use the Mythos 8.

Front - Mythos ST, Center - Mythos 8 and 10
Front Height - Gems, Side Surround - Gem XL
Back Surround - Gem XL
Sub - Supercube Ref
There can never be enough music

I ran a system consisting of 4 gem xl, mythos ten, and supercube reference for years. Sounded great so I'll say mythos ten.

I just ordered a SVS PC-2000. It seemed to be the best option for me...I wanted the sb-2000 but I think given my room dimensions the pb-2000 would have been the better choice but I didn't want the footprint of the pb-2000. The pc-1000 seemed to be the best compromise.

I wonder how I should set this up with my system, I have the mythos sts using the two sub connections on my denon avr-4000. Should I run the sts's without the sub wires?

That's a tough one.

I have a pair of Mythos ST speakers and dual SVS PB-2000's under my screen.

The way I have these connected is that I'm using both subwoofer outs on my yamaha receiver and have it configured for Front Left/Right Subs. The front left is split between the left PB-2000 and the left mythos ST. The front right is split between the right PB-2000 and the right mythos ST.

Are you going to have the SVS Sub in the front or rear or the room? If it's the rear then I think that makes things easier.

I was playing around with the idea of having it in the rear but I may have it in the front right corner.

Why would the rear be easier?

If it's the rear you can run it as the rear sub through your avr. Then you could split the front sub connection between the mythos STS.

Interesting, not sure that I saw that option for rear subs previously. But basically I'd just use one sub-out for my new rear sub and have audyssey assess that and the two STS's on the other.

Very nice. What did you upgrade from and what pre/pro + amp or receiver do you have them connected to? I went from some cheap 10 year old yamaha bookshelves to mythos ones and then to the mythos ST. Love them!

Thanks. I upgraded from a very cheap pair of BIC America large bookshelf fronts. This is the second purchase in my task to fully upgrade my whole setup. First was my 60" Panasonic LED display. I'm currently using a pioneer 7.1VSX-920 as my receiver, this will be changed out to either a Denon or Marantz down the road so I can take advantage of the ARC function. Next up will be center and surrounds. A trip to Ikea die a larger entertainment center so I can put the center channel inside it.

I'm looking to add either the Mythos Gem or Gem XL for my L/R surrounds. I have the Def. Tec. 8060's for my front towers and center.

Is there a big drop off in performance from the Gem's to the Gem XL?

The Gem XL has the same 4 1/2 mid drivers as my towers so perhaps that's the way to go.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

I had a similar problem and it was the ST amp going bad. I had to change the amp. Loose connection could also be causing this. Can the funky electronic feedback be heard with just the power cord plugged in (no speaker wire) ?

I don't personally believe so...I've had both.

But your results can vary, especially how your room is setup,

Nice I have the STS's as well and love them. I also have a Denon avr-x4000 which is great, good choice on receiver options.

I also went to ikea after buying these speakers and built a Besta stand and cut a custom middle shelf out to place my Mythos Ten (at the time) nicely in the middle.

Dolby Atmos anyone?

Anyone making the jump to Atmos with their Mythos systems?

I'm in between homes, so all my stuff is in storage but was wondering if anyone has added def tech ceiling speakers or something to take advantage of Atmos soundtracks.

Pioneer PDP-5071HD, Panasonic TC-P60ZT60, Denon 3311CI, Oppo BDP-93, Emotiva XPA-5, Definitive Mythos ST, Mythos 8, Gem XL, SVS SB-13 Ultra

I haven't added for atmos but this past weekend I added a pair of UIW RSS II speakers into our living room ceiling. Had to rent scaffolding from home depot to do it but the install was easy and they sound amazing.

Cool. That series looks pretty hefty.

I know most Mythos speakers can be mixed and matched and work well together.

How did you decide between the two different models (direct vs bipolar)? Is bipolar a better imaging arrangement since they are in the ceiling and used as surround effects?

That's exactly right. From what I read the bipolar speakers create a better rear sound stage. I have a mythos setup in my basement where my projector is setup and while the sound is amazing I don't get quiet the same experience from the surround speakers as I do with the new ones I installed in the living room. I know each room is different though and am probably getting a lot more reflections down there.

I believe there are a few people that have installed the round in ceiling speakers from def tech for atmos but haven't seen a ton of them. I'm definitely interested but probably wont make any more upgrades until closer to the end of the year when more receivers are out.

I actually purchased two def tech in ceiling speakers with the intention of replacing my gems in my new home. Just thought that it would be a cleaner looking setup as the living room and dining room are shared. Once I saw atmos had been released I decided to hold on to the gems and use the in ceilings for atmos....and now I am waiting for atmos to mature, hdmi 2.0 to release and mature, and then get a capable receiver.

So I'll let you know how it goes in like 3 years [emoji57]

I've been looking at the Marantz 1605 Slim chassis receiver as my next possible purchase, I'm curious if anyone here has any experience with them or would know if that unit would power my STS's reasonably well. I never listen at reference levels and most of what i'm using them for is music with some movies. I'm hoping to free up some space in my entertainment center which is why I am looking this route. Thanks for any help.

looking for a little help/advise on a pair of mythos sts towers i recently purchased used, i tried to research the topic but couldnt get any "definitive" (get it, definitive?) answers:

-after setup i was getting humming noise from one of the subs, i unplugged the speaker from the wall and the hum went away but the sub obviously stopped working but the speakers in that tower work just fine.

-i disconnected the speaker from the tower and plugged it back into another outlet on another circuit and when it was plugged in the sub still hummed.

-i tried a different power cord and still got the humming sound so i think i've ruled out any issues w/ my receiver, household power/circuits and the power cord so there must be an issue internally w/in the tower.

can anyone offer any repair advise or thoughts? i'm also located in Chicago FYI if anyone knows a good/honest tech in the area.

thanks for the help!

I had the same problem on a Mythos ST. The amp had to be replaced. Def Tech has a 3-year warranty, as I recall, on electronics, so if your speaker is 3 years or younger, Def Tech will likely repair it for free. I suggest talking to your nearest Def Tech dealer.
