I have the e5ti, e5ci and book shelf. All are fuel injected as indicated by the i. I also have 2 emp on walls for heights (not installed).

I run a modified 7.2, so 5.2 with height. Currently the heights are small polks that are at the top of my projector screen in the corners. But the layout of the room is not optimal and the l+r are not in line with the height. When I found out how the heights were supposed to be positioned, I realized I couldn't get the new speakers in place without a divorce. The emp on walls are quite large.

Ideally I would have an acoustically transparent screen, a symmetrical room and a wife that loved sound more than aesthetics, but I live in the real world...

One day the emp will go up, but only when I can get them in the right place.

I want to use the multi-quote feature on here, but I can't seem to figure it out. Can someone help? Thanks!

Ok, now for the ultra bad news!

I have to send back the Denon 4520CI receiver to Amazon tomorrow.
I was advised to call back Amazon to make sure that it had the 3 year Denon warranty.
You see, when I purchased it, it was from Amazon Warehouse Deals, not Amazon.
But I call them anyway before I purchased it to make sure it had the warranty. The rep checked and said it was still good because the box was refused by the customer, not opened or registered so I bought it.

Now I checked and got a whole different story and that is has NO warranty at all!! I was upset but they apologized and asked me to ship it back for a full refund.

So now I am back to square one all over again for a receiver. The 4520CI brand new is just out of my reach. Oh well...

napski, am I seeing that correctly- is that a 1000 dollar AV receiver? My opinion, if they are refunding you, save yourself some serious coin and get yourself a 3-500 dollar receiver. An expensive receiver won't make speakers sound any better than properly set up speaker hooked to a budget AVR. I have the Denon 1613, the Yamaha v373 (both around 200 dollars) and they have all the feature I need, enough power, room correction and both sound great.

btw, I watch Live, Die, Repeat tonight! Man, if you want a movie that will make your surround system sing and your subwoofers holler, than one fits the bill. Good movie, too...

I highly rcommend staying with a receiver that has Audyssey's best, XT32. In my experience after using regular XT for years, XT32 is a noticeable improvement with highly refined sound quality due to its much higher resolution filters.

The Denon 4520 is a great unit with beefier power supplies compared to most receivers and it sold for $2500 when it first came out. You can get it online from reputable dealer Accessories4Less as a factory refurb with full Denon 1-year warranty for $889 and free shipping currently. They have other receivers with Audyssey XT32 for less too.

my late wife, when I bought my first system, a crappy Htib, said "what was wrong with the TV speakers?" I said listen and after a movie she said "what was wrong with the TV speakers?" I replied, "What was wrong with those red shoes that cause you to buy three more pairs?" she didn't get it either...

Not sure why you decided on 4 tower speakers. But to answer your question, yes, provided you give the EMP Tek's a full 30 days to try them out. It takes time to evaluate a new speaker and get use to the sound signature, and these are two completely different speakers. The 901s are unique speakers in that they give you a gigantic wall of sound and impressive bass for their size (if hung from the ceilings -- I was never able to get good sound on stands). One can sit basically anywhere within the room. They are great for parties (when I had mine, we had dance parties at least once a week). Where the 901s are vulnerable is in articulation, stage depth (certainly not height or width) and slight strain at higher/highest frequencies (at least on my 901 series II's).

If given the time, I think you'll find the EMP Teks will provide more detail, a smoother high end (especially the higher midrange), better stage depth, but it's never going to rival the 901s huge overall sound stage.

Music area: Magnepan 3.6, McIntosh MC2205 & C48, SVS SB13-Ultra, Oppo BDP 95 and assorted equipment.
Movie area: EMP Tek R5Bi, PSA XS30, Denon X2000, Oppo BDP 83.

the price was good,c.s. gave me a good deal on the package so not much difference in price but if this was to be a bad factor maybe I should change this to two towers and two surrounds with the center

I'll be using these with a Denon X5200W replacing a 1992 Kenwood avr with a 400w rms Bob Carver preamp for the Bose in this setup, the old avr only put 15w mono for rear effect
I agree, the Bose 901 can fill the room

My buddy 901 speakers really sound great...for music. As Dsrussel say, they are great if you want to be enveloped in sound. For HT, you want a more direction speaker and when friend Paul tried them for HT, he was not so happy.

Finally got a chance to experiment some more with the E5Ti in the living room.

I discovered the main reasons I was unimpressed at first were because of room placement and calibration. The main listening position happens to be right in a mid-low frequency dead zone caused by a standing wave. By moving the seating (temporarily) I was not only able to get out of that dead zone, but was able to position myself as the third point of an equilateral triangle with the speakers. This greatly improved every aspect of sound quality. These speakers are so clear and detailed I actually had to use less volume to avoid fatigue. The room isn't ideal, being at the front entryway and having a large glass window, but I was able to get a good feel for what these little towers can do. I do have carpet and plush furniture for decent absorption though. The Transformers soundtrack and the movie X-Men: First Class really gave a great presentation. And Audyssey greatly improved the dialogue from the center speaker. I think that was the biggest improvement from running it. Before Audyssey, dialogue had the wrong tone and no amount of playing with bass or treble could get it right. It sounded like the people were in a cardboard box and were all battling a case of the cold. Low end was decent, but of course adding a subwoofer would be a requirement if this were going to be used for HT.

This is probably common sense to a lot of people here, but it can't be understated how important it is. I've taken these E5Tis from sounding mediocre to being a pretty good value, and I've learned some new things along the way. I still plan on putting them up against my Primus in the basement when I get the chance.

If anything, the EMP tend to be just a bit recessed in the highs, and it seems like Audessey EQs the high end up a bit!

I emailed Brian at EMPtek yesterday, after seeing some B stock that was on the web site for about 2 min, then taken down. He is going to ship me a couple e5Bi tommorrow for 150/pr, B stock, but he says they are just returns, so in factory condition. So now my HT 5.1 will be all EMP, with the exception of a Outlaw LFM-1 sub...
Anyway, for some items at least, don't wait for B stock to show up on the web site, just shoot Brian an email and he will set you.

Awesome price. Just out of curiosity did he happen to mention any other B stock products available?

I emailed Brian at EMPtek yesterday, after seeing some B stock that was on the web site for about 2 min, then taken down. He is going to ship me a couple e5Bi tommorrow for 150/pr, B stock, but he says they are just returns, so in factory condition. So now my HT 5.1 will be all EMP, with the exception of a Outlaw LFM-1 sub...
Anyway, for some items at least, don't wait for B stock to show up on the web site, just shoot Brian an email and he will set you.
Nice! Less than I paid for mine during the BF sale, and I'm sure they're in just as good (pristine) condition.
