Right! Must be a pretty 'meh' driver with hardly any excursion capabilities. I mean it's already in a huge enclosure and ported to help...

Looks like they could have done a 15" easily. Hm. Can't wait to see some actual numbers

How are they getting 3dB down by 20hz? To me it looks like it's 3dB down by about 29-32hz...not 20hz.

I actually did want to place the center on the very top shelf. But two things:

1) The Kinect is on the top shelf, and moving it lower to the middle shelf (which I have done before) does not work out too well.

2) My record player (seen on far right on the top shelf, in blue), would have to go to the middle shelf, too, and I would not be able to open the cover that way.

If any of you have any solutions to those two issues (mainly number 2, as the Kinect would be an easier fix), please let me know!

1. The kinect is pretty small and not tall isn't it? I'm sure the center to fit and still have the Kinect easily out of it's way. Especially if you angle the center up a little

2. Pull the cover of the record player!! Are you able to have it where it's not hinged and opens like a car hood? Instead make it to where you can just set it on top of it when needed and if you need to remove it it'll just come off like a shoe box top.

It's hinged, but I'm sure I could un-hinge it. However, I do like having it on the top. The Record player is literally the only thing stumping me on putting the center channel on the top shelf! ARG!

But for real, think of something creative to place my record player so I can place the center channel on the top shelf. I'd owe you! Haha

Just make yourself a nice little analog setup off to the side. By a small media rack that can have the record player, phone preamp, records, etc. I think getting that center on top will be a big difference for you. Let us know how those subs sound!

I guess to keep the sub at the budget they want they need to cut back somewhere. Those are the same amps RBH uses, so they didn't need to design a new one, but I'd wager they aren't cheap at all.

Would be nice to see how something like a 12" Ultimax performs in that cabinet, but you would think the current sub should be able to get down to 20Hz easily. Didn't someone say they were going to have it measured?

The sub might not have real deep extension, but going on what their design philosophy, it will probably have a great sound.

Quick question on receiver settings for the R5bi and R5ci, I have these paired with a Dayton Sub-1200. What crossover setting is everyone using for the L/R and Center empteks? Should my sub stay crossed over at 120hz with these? I have a denon receiver with audyssey but curious to see what some others have set theirs at.

I'm looking very forward to Audioholics getting their hands on these subs. The more I look at them the more I find myself surprised that a ported sub with that kind of size isn't playing down to 20hz. Those things are huge and should have plenty of excursion.

I use 80Hz for my front sound stage, Audyssey will set the towers to 60Hz, but there is no harm in raising it and it gives me more headroom.

For the bookshelves, I would do 80-100Hz, and that should work fine for the center as well.

I'm going to echo the 80hz advice. Ideally this is a good place to set the cross over because it is below the point where you are going to get localization from the subwoofer. Not sure about the R5bi series, but I can tell you that with the towers the bass below about 55hz really is lacking. I imagine that the same can be said on the R5bi speakers. Also when it comes to crossover, remember to keep your speakers set to small. You're paying money to buy a sub, always a good idea to fully utilize it.

Couldn't turn the gain too high on all 4 of them for now, but DAMN do these subs sound smooth, punchy, and flat. So far I've just been listening to music with them, and holy hell do they sound good.

And PS; they sure hit the lows very well. Not sure what the fuss was about there. Not sure about the 350w version, however.

An actual and thoughtful review will be coming in the next week(s) or so, once I get more familiar with them.
