Ok, currently I am running an Onkyo TX-SR576 to some old speakers given to me with out a sub...

So first, a Powered Sub is needed but i think i've chosen a BIC F12

provantage.com/bic-america-f12~7BICA003.htm

Thats $186 after shipping. the next item i need are speakers for a system, i dunno which but I have about another $200 or so to spend on those.

Other Info: room is 12' X 16', its a dorm so it'll be tight but there will be a set aside area for the TV and speakers. Also, thats only temporary, and the speakers will later be in a larger living room area of an apartment.

Usage:
20% Games
35% Music
45% TV and Movies

if you suggest a new sub, speakers, whatever, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Also if anyone can point me towards anything to learn about these things, that would be awesome. Things like this would be a lot easier if I had knowledge on the subject.

Another thing, it would be nice if this system was good for playing Vinyl.

You won't find a good set of surrounds for $200. The best you could do is use the speakers you have and add two more for a 5.1 or 7.1 system.

Look for two of the same brand or that sound similar.

Finding an AVR with a phono input will be challenging.

well, i have a seperate phono pre-amp already, just would like speakers that would sound nice. the speakers I have are pretty bad, but if its not worth getting then thats fine. it doesn't necessarily have to be 5.1, I'm open to whatever.

Check all the threads by Robert Cook. He often has good suggestions for low budgets.

Energy Take Classic 5

would this work out alright with the BIC F12? other suggestions?

Very popular now. Good choice.

A sub will work with most any speaker system. It doesn't need to timbre match.

Use on pair of whatever you have as the surrounds and add this center channel

http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ENCC50

and these for mains

http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ENC100

a tiny bit over budget with shipping, but well worth it IMO. Your current speaker should be able to handle surround duty.

You're gonna wanna go to Vanns.com for the Energy C-100s at $108.88 with free shipping.

http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...38/energy-c100

Also check out the shipping charge for the Energy C-C50 center from Audio Advisor. It may make more sense to get the C-C100 from Buy.com at $113.99 with free shipping.

http://www.buy.com/prod/energy-c-c10...210807863.html

Total cost= $227.87

Or just get two pair of C-100s and use three of them for left, right, and center, and sell the 4th.

Total cost= $217.76

These sound good also, Mirage. The Energy Take would be great for a dorm or small apartment.

I think you'll be VERY happy! For the price this is a VERY good start but at the same time if you end up needing more later it will be easy to add a pair of towers and move what you've got around. But I've got these same speakers and you just may find them plenty. Glad we could help steer you into these!
